Swensen, Pugh, McMullan, & Kabcenell, (2013) describe three interdependent dimensions of leadership as the new mental models, leadership behaviors, and leadership framework. The focus is to engage leadership at all levels of the organization to improve health care and achieve Triple Aim. IHI (2017) states that the Triple Aim, developed by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, is a method to enhance health system performance simultaneously through three elements: improving patient experience, improving population health, and reducing the cost of health care. The Triple Aim formula is Value of care = Quality/Cost. Organizations are needing to redesign their strategy from a volume-based structure to a value based care delivery system. The center of this model is driven by persons and community and how important is the patient and family to the organization and how do they fit with the organization’s vision and goals. This circle sits on top of three other circles: create a vision; deliver results and develop capability. Creating a vision is where the leaders of the system have the pledge of change and the urgency and the past is unacceptable. They are now creating this brand-new vision and creating and building a new sense of urgency for change. remain transparent in the system measures, aims, and results. Developing capability is the organization accepting change through improvement projects. Delivering results from the improvement projects using methods that are proven. These results must trickle down to the staff so that they understand how their hard work measures to the outcomes. At this level, the leaders should be tracking and reviewing against the Triple
