Evaluation feedback is valuable information to obtain, but certainly is not the end of the teaching process. Based on data obtained, often it requires the educator to reevaluate planning and execution. Feedback from this experience included the desire to use the simulation time to actually practice mobilization of the patient to the operating room. Although this experience was in-situ, it is worth discussion with the simulation team to do more planning prior to arrival about the particular hospital’s workflow. By knowing and planning the simulation with this information, it would be possible to consider further teaching of this scenario with actual mobilization to the operating room. Further, this experience allowed me to recognize the benefits of simulation learning for nursing staff. Innovative educational methods, such as simulation, are necessary to meet the ever-increasing and changing demands of nursing. The IOM released a report in 2010 with one of the goals being for nurses to achieve higher levels of education and training through an improved education system (The National Academy of Sciences [NAS], 2011). Not only does this mean that nurses should have opportunities to advance their degrees seamlessly, but also this means that nurses should have learning opportunities and education throughout their careers. Additionally, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has funded the QSEN to address the challenges of preparing future nurses with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to improve quality and safety in the healthcare systems (QSEN, 2018).
