Why Is Towel Important Essay

Sitting in up in the chair, I slowly scan the pool, while sweat drips down my face. Young kids are running around, screaming to each other from across the pool. As soon as I hear pitter-patter of their footsteps I immediately, without thinking, yell, “walk please!” in my kind but firm “lifeguard” voice. From the corner of my eye, I see a young mom strolling toward the towel rack, dressed in her designer cover-up and oversized sunglasses. Just from the look of it, I can tell exactly what she is about to do. Please don’t do it, please don’t do it. Please don’t take way more towels than necessary. Those towels have spent an hour in the washer, fifty-five minutes in the dryer, then about fifteen minutes getting neatly folded and stacked on the rack. Just like I predicted, the mom takes a whole stack of neaty-folded, still warm towels, for her two toddlers. Are you kidding?! You have two kids which means two towels, not six. I spent two whole hours washing and drying those only to have them barely used then tossed …show more content…
Us lifeguards spend hours washing, drying, folding, and then expertly stacking them on the towel rack. Those moms that think five towels are necessary for their singular three-year-old child are ridiculous. One towel is more than sufficient for drying your kid. Even on hot days, when the towels are definitely not needed for warmth, I see seven-year-olds with one towel wrapped around their waist, one on their arms, then a third on their head. Often after the moms grab a stack of towels, they realize they don’t need that many after unfolding all of them, then they just leave them on their chairs. How about you keep them folded, and put them back if you don’t need them? People don’t think about the work it takes to provide clean towels and they take advantage of the abundance of

To begin, I watched a TED Talk video entitled, “Joe Smith: How To Use A Paper Towel”. Joe Smith is an active, private practice lawyer in Oregon. In the video, Mr. Smith grabs the attention of his audience by giving the following statistical statement, “If we can just use one paper towel per day, we would reduce the use of paper towels by 571.2 million pounds per year.” To substantiate Joe’s claim, I came across an article by Melanie Stewart, who is a Research Resources Manager at the University of Nebraska. She wrote an article entitled, “LiveGreen: One Less Paper Towel…

This past summer, I underwent many swim tests and was finally offered a lifeguarding position at a local town beach and waterpark. I eagerly accepted the offer and was excited to start. When I arrived on my first day, I was informed that there had not been a save in our shallow water facility for the past nine years. But, that nine year save streak ended this summer. A coworker noticed that a man had went underwater and quickly blew a whistle to inform everyone at our facility that there was an emergency.…

One would rightfully assume two sisters raised by the same mother in the same household would be quite similar to each other but this is most definitely not the case in “Everyday Use” by Alice Walker. It is clear that the sisters in the story, Maggie and Dee, are complete contrasts of each other. To begin, the most obvious difference between the two is their appearances. Maggie is a fragile, awkward girl who seems to have little to no self-esteem. In the beginning of the story, their mother says that “good looks passed by her (Maggie)”…

Growing up, I lived in a rural area, and attended a school which people wouldn’t considered amongst the elite schools. While I attended my former high school, I didn’t think about the quality of my education. When I went to college, my education up to that point seemed to be sufficient enough in allowing me to graduate with a Bachelors’ of Science. Furthermore, as I talked to friends, it appears that they were pressure to get higher education. They too attended a public school.…

As a young person, choosing what to study is one of the hardest decision you have to make. According to a Washington Post article, “What’s the purpose of college: A job or an education?” by Jeffrey J. Selingo, learning and getting more knowledge about the world used to be a purpose of higher education, but nowadays it switched to getting a job after graduation rather than gaining more knowledge. Education is the most important factor in order to be successful, but lots of people are in college because their parents want them to, while others think that college is the next destination they have to go through after high school. To me, college is the place that teaches us how to think, how to analyze things thoroughly and to pursue a good career…
