Essay About Laundry As A College Freshman

How to do Laundry as a College Freshman You would think that classes are the most overwhelming thing for a college freshman. However, even though classes are difficult doing laundry is even more problematic. My entire life I had my parent do all my laundry, and I never even knew how to make my bed until college. After living such a privileged life, I was scared out of my mind to do laundry for the first time. Doing laundry was like learning how to do a backflip, you need to land on your head a few times before you understand how to master it. I definitely landed on my head way more than a few times doing my laundry. Before I even went downstairs to the laundry room, I had to call my mother for advice. The first thing she told me to do was …show more content…
I thought about my one card not working, or dropping my laundry all over the floor and was so afraid that I was going to embarrass myself in front of everyone in the laundry room. As I approached the laundry room it was silence and my heart was pounding as I opened the door. Gladly, no one was in the laundry room to witness my embarrassment. I quickly ran to the first washing machine that looked free and shoved my clothes inside. I walked over to the one card swipe and prayed that my mother had actually put retail points onto my card. Luckily, my one card work and I was able to use the washing machine.
There were only 6 buttons on the washing machine and no of them said darks, so I made a guess that colors would be the best choice. However, I was wrong because as the wash started I saw the screen say warm cycle and I knew that darks were supposed to be washed in cold. After trying multiple times to press another button or open the door I finally gave up and hoped that temperature difference wouldn’t

I was able to transport all my clothes to the dryer safely and then looked at the dryer instructions on the wall. Before using the machine, I had to clean the lint screen. I had never heard of a lint screen before and fumbled around trying to find it for about ten minutes. Clearing the lint screen was definitely one of my top ten grosses moments of my life. Since I had no idea how to clean it I just started banging the lint screen against the trash can until all the lint fell off. I then put the lint screen back in and went to swipe my card to start the load. Once again there wasn’t a button for darks, so I just pressed colors and hope it would be okay.
I went back to the laundry room for the last time that night and actually saw another person in the laundry room. I quietly went over to my dryer opened it, reach it and jumped backward from how hot my clothes were. I eventually started chucking my clothes into my bag despite how hot they were.
My last task of doing laundry was folding and I finished it in recorded time because I actually knew how to fold laundry. First I folded my t-shirts, then pants, and lastly underwear. After all the hard work and confusion over a “simple machine” I was ready to crash. I felt like I had ran a marathon not a simple household task. The only piece of advice I could give is to

The bath tub was of a pinkish tint, and had a big crack running vertically down the center; the toilet was also of a pinkish tint and it certainly has not been used in 14 years and it would not be used any time after that. That is the main reason why I always buy the kleenexes. While I need them for my constantly runny noise, my roommate thinks that she needs to use them to dry her hands on a daily basis. She doesn’t use the paper towels or her actual shower towel to dry her hands like a normal person. She uses the kleenexes. She started to use kleenexes to dry her hands since the beginning of the year because she found out that when she uses her towel it leaves black fuzzies on her hands.…

I was a few yards from the nurses office when I heard my dad, a teacher, yell, “Brendan what’s wrong?” I turned around and he figured out pretty quickly what was wrong. “You go wash off that blood I’ll go get the nurse. I went to the bathroom sink, which was located outside of the bathroom. It took a while to clean off because the sinks were automatic so very ten seconds I had to wave my hand in front of the sensor. I used a combination of wet and dry paper towels to dry and clear the blood that had already created a gross crust, the sign on the dispenser said “Take one please.” I felt like I was an exception in this moment.…

Later that day, my mom stumbled upon the jar while putting away my clothes. She didn’t seem angry when she asked me about it, but she acted disgusted by it and was trying to throw it in the trash. This was not the reaction I was expecting, I mean, why would my mom throw a lizard in the trash?! I pleaded with her “mom, I’m sorry that I hurt it, but I put medicine and a band aid on it until the lizard grows, please don’t take him away from me”! After staring at me blankly for a few seconds, the realization must have sat in, because she immediately changed the way she was talking to me.…
