You are surrounded by a horde of pixelated demons ready to destroy you and make you lose all your hard earned gold, when suddenly your friend from the warrior’s guild comes into the screen plunging a sword into the abdomens of those demons. Many of you know this doesn’t happen in reality, but some of you may not know that scenes like this are being played out this very instant, between millions of kids and adults worldwide. In a world where technology is making ungodly leaps and bounds beyond what our ancestors believed possible, a new technology was introduced that some say may be the cause for a change in our behavior. This new technology is video games, more precisely Massive Multiplayer Role Playing Games or MMORPGs. There has been some study into the change in behavior due to these games, but in a lot of eyes, there hasn’t been enough to completely demonize these games, some even believe that this may be a new form of learning material for our youth. The fact of the matter still remains that there just hasn’t been enough testing or recorded history of gameplay vs. behavior to truly understand their long term effects, especially since the age group of those that were around when this new style of gaming was created, have barely reached their mid to late twenties, like myself.
