Video Game Violence In The 1980's

It was eleven years ago, but I can still visualize it as if it were yesterday. My whole body was covered in blood, ears ringing from the explosion, and eyes impacted with dirt, keeping me from finding my rifle. In 2003 the popular video game, Call of Duty, came out and quickly became the best-selling game ever. With that fame came the scrutiny of video game violence affecting the people playing it. Most recently, the young man who opened fire at the movie theater in Aurora, CO., was a gamer and instantly the media blamed his rampage on his obsession to act out some dark digital fantasy. I was stuck behind the remains of a once popular store that was now a smoking mound of rubble. That’s when I noticed the body of my best friend, lying motionless in the street. I thought he was dead, until I could hear a faint cry for help between the shots of gunfire that seemed endless. Social scientists started studying and debating the effects of video game violence in the 1980’s. With technology advancing in great strides, video games today are more realistic and bloodier than ever before. New research does show that playing games can and does stir hostile urges and mildly aggressive behavior in the short-term. Yet it is still unclear, over longer periods, video games increase the likelihood that a person will commit murder or assault. …show more content…
I grabbed it and yelled to my friend that I was coming. Without hesitation I ran into the line of fire and dove next to him. I tried to help him but it was too late, I didn’t make it in time. My body filled with rage and without thinking, I started running towards the enemy.
