Everyone plays games. From the youngest of people to the oldest, we all enjoy a good game. It is a way for us to wind down, relax, and have a good time with our friends and family. However, in recent years, games have become a lot more than just ways to pass the time. They have evolved into something in which the new generations immerse themselves into. They have come to dominate the entertainment industry. By analyzing the recent surge in gaming sites such as the Playstation Network, we can see that young people prefer to exist in a plane where they can be, or become, anything they wish. This plane allows the gamer to meet and exceed societal expectations placed on individuals. The appeal of this plane is so great that for some people, their …show more content…
It was a way they had fun and stayed active whilst doing so. For middle-aged generations, games moved into the living room where families gathered to spend time with each other. Modern games or more accurately, video games, are not played like this anymore. For one, video games are not played outside. They are played inside, on a television screen. It is true that families can gather and play these kinds of games as well but these games are much more limited. There has to be enough controllers for whoever is playing and, depending on the game, a big enough tv. The reason being, some games are designed so that all players have their own screen. This means that the tv screen must be “split” so that each player can have their screen. When this happens, it becomes smaller and if it becomes too small, players cannot see and will not be able to play. All of this adds to the individualization of video games. Games are not created with the intent of being shared between multiple physical people. At most, they are created with the intent of it being shared between two physical people. But for the most part, games are designed to be used by one player who then interacts with other players
