Tom Thumb Band in Consumers’ Minds
These days, ads pervade every aspect of life. Countless advertisements on television, billboards, and even pop-up ads on the internet. These diverse forms of advertisements failed to attract my weary eyes before I found Tom Thumb’s eye-catching website last Wednesday. The website promotes the consumer’s appetite to spend, based on three distinct strategies.
First, through posting about children, Tom Thumb advertisements are persuasive and effective, especially when aimed at a targeting women and family audiences. The range of posts in regards to children is wide reaching. It not only suggests kids’ treats and children’s lunches, but it also shows their philanthropy for children who suffer from childhood cancer

Tom Thumbs’ main commodities are their groceries and food items. Its focus is more noticeable when we compare their ads to Walmart ads. On Walmart’s website, we can see it is more focused on electrical appliances, clothes, and toys. This means that Tom Thumb helps buyers make better buying decisions by meeting their needs and matching them with the products they supply. To be specific, its post says: “Who needs to dine out? This #filet is definitely worth staying home for on #Valentine’s Day.” This mouthwatering encouragement suggests that buying the ingredients saves more money. Hence, by showing the consumers’ benefits to buyers, Tom Thumb heightens the effectiveness of its advertising. This strategy makes buyers feel that they are consuming rationally. It uses punctuation effectively for attracting attention. Many question marks help to excite the customers’ interest in its promotion. It appears that Tom Thumb is trying to improve customer satisfaction. Constant questions create a feeling in which every consumers’ opinion is valued and respected; thereby, including customers into their promotions. Exclamation points give off a friendly excitement, which tempts consumers. A friendly tone is more persuasive. By using a conversational tone in its posts, the formal and businesslike atmosphere can be offset, adding an informal touch for the buyers. Consequently, this tone has a good contrast between Tom Thumb and, for example, Bank of America, which has a more formal tone in its advertising.
Tom Thumb’s purpose of advertising is to convince and persuade, which means making people listen to its recommendations. It has revealed its affection for children, family values, and the usefulness of their products through the friendly approach.
