Personal Narrative: My Passion For Learning

The most important thing about me, and one of the things I care about most, is my passion for learning. The second most important thing about me is that I want to help people. I have always been an inquisitive person, wanting to know the why of something, I wanted to truly understand things. I found out that I cannot possibly learn everything there is to learn, rather early in life, but I have always been a determined person, and I want to learn every day for the rest of my life. In high school, I learned that the best way for me to truly show that I learned something, that I understood it was to show someone else. For me, understanding means teaching others. I have always appreciated and admired my teachers, and because of that, I have volunteered at my former middle school the last few years of my college, to see my former teachers, as well as do something I loved. One year when I was helping Mrs. Adelman with her fifth-grade class, she asked me to help a student that was having trouble with long division. I sat down with the student and helped him, first I modeled a problem that was not on the sheet, and then we worked together on the first problem of his sheet, afterward he did the entire sheet with hardly any help from me. It was an incredible moment that I can still feel as though it were yesterday. At the moment, I am doing …show more content…
For my subjects in particular, since they are both languages, I also want to focus on the communicative aspects of English and Spanish. Knowing one helps with the other, and vice versa, as well as allowing students to be able to communicate with much more people than they would simply knowing one language. I want to help my students learn about themselves, as well as about English or Spanish, and gain the skills they need to succeed in life, whatever those may

Semester of Learning Experiences People most always say, “ Learn from you mistakes and achievements.” I would definitely conclude that is exactly what I’ve done this first semester of college. There are many times that I wanted to simply curl into a ball because of all the newness and unfamiliarity. At times I found myself doing just that, but realizing that I needed to toughen up burst from my comfort zone. I can say sleeping through your classes never the best choice, not going just because you find it too easy, missing a class just to write a paper for another class, and differentiating between minimal and highly important status of choices.…

I do not plan on transferring as most of my friends have, but I will to push myself to be proud of my decision I have made to stay at BC. I have gained, experience, knowledge, lost, and understand most things that I have been exposed to in my twenty years of life. One goal I have is pass the GKE (General Knowledge Exam). The first step would be to fully understand what the GKE is and what kind of tests I need to do to pass this exam. The second step would be to study as much as possible to ensure a passing score.…

Since starting high school, my interest in classroom learning had dropped quite significantly. I felt like grades were just a game, and that I should be out in the world learning things I deemed "practical life skills." My senior year I was able to mentor in a classroom of fourth graders for one period, ever other day. I took the class thinking it would be an easy and fun way to spend an hour an a half.…

My talent is creating, and my form of creating is writing. Writing is a thing I've been doing since I was in the seventh grade. I started writing then because of a troublesome past, both my mother and my father had left my two other siblings and I all alone, leaving us with our uncle. It was very hard for me to adjust, I was fatigued and emotionally hurt, I turned to writing. My love for writing grew into a bigger part of my life when I kept dream journals.…

This week, I dove right in and started picking up a couple of things in Mrs. Herrold's classroom. To begin, I took over the morning routine of the "Daily Fix-It" worksheets, calendar, and morning meeting. Through morning meeting, I was able to get to know the students a little bit better. I asked them questions like: "What do you want to be when you grow up?" "What is your favorite animal?"…

My path to literacy began when I was old enough for my mother, father, and older sisters to read to me. I began listening to books before I could speak, and I believe my exposure to books influenced my speech development because it expanded my vocabulary. Throughout elementary school, not only did I read often, but I also played various computer games that helped form my technological literacy; socialized with my family’s friends, which supported my social literacy; and spent much of my time at church, where I developed my spiritual literacy. As I entered middle school, I began as a homeschooled student. However, I transitioned to a private school in eighth grade and then to a public high school in ninth grade.…

When I first began learning Spanish in middle school, it was by obligation. At the time, there was no need for me to know any other language beside English. Everyone around me was white, and no one spoke anything other than English. It wasn’t until high school that I realized the power of knowing another language. Speaking another language allows you to communicate with entirely new communities -- to hear their problems and experience their way of life.…

Many times when one thinks of being an RA the financial benefits of the job opportunity becomes the focus. While I am happy about those awesome benefits those are not my only primary focuses. I am hoping to become an RA because I enjoy working with other people, developing professional skills, and building a community. Being a Sociology major, this experience will allow me to really have an on hands training of what I am learning here in my classrooms at U.C. Berkeley. I know that I am capable of handling this position as being an RA, because of my past experiences working with elderly people and also working with high school students.…
