My interview was done in a first-grade classroom at Christopher House Belmont Craigin also called the Stewart Campus. It is one of the Charter school in the community that serves low-income families and children. The school is at the Urban area of the Westside of Chicago. In the building of the school, there are infants, toddlers, preschool and elementary school students. The name of the classroom teacher I interviewed is Ms. S. She has been working with the school for almost 2 years. She teaches most subject except art, gymnastics, and music. In her classroom, there are 20 students. Her classroom has a diverse group of students ranging from African Americans, Caucasian, Hispanics, and Asian. She has 60% Hispanics in her classroom. S believes that RTI is important in school because it helps to identify the children that need support in the class, it also helps to know if there is the need for special education. However, she let me know that it is not all schools that will be able to provide RTI because only a few professionals are trained to evaluate students appropriately in order to understand what services they need. Inaccurate student’s evaluation can lead to more children to be evaluated for IEP. At Christopher house several people are responsible for deciding if a student need RTI support, nevertheless, the classroom teacher is responsible for observing and assessing the students in the beginning of the school year. My question after this response was how they are able to immediately recognize children immediately after the first assessment. She let me know that the assessment is a process and there are tools fused. Some of the tools use include the Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI), NWEA teacher assessment and more. The assessments are done for every child and then as continuously for
