Semester of Learning Experiences

People most always say, “ Learn from you mistakes and achievements.” I would definitely conclude that is exactly what I’ve done this first semester of college. At times I found myself doing just that, but realizing that I needed to toughen up burst from my comfort zone. I can say sleeping through your classes never the best choice, not going just because you find it too easy, missing a class just to write a paper for another class, and differentiating between minimal and highly important status of choices. My graduate experience will be light years different then my undergraduate training. I chuckle just contemplating the technological difference alone. Back when I attended undergraduate school there wasn’t the internet, the LoudCloud, e-books, or personal laptop computers. We thought we were “hot stuff” because we progressed from the slide ruler to a state of the art Texas Interment graphing calculator. By the way google informed me that my particular calculator at that time was the first of its kind.…

Since starting high school, my interest in classroom learning had dropped quite significantly. I felt like grades were just a game, and that I should be out in the world learning things I deemed "practical life skills." My senior year I was able to mentor in a classroom of fourth graders for one period, ever other day. I took the class thinking it would be an easy and fun way to spend an hour an a half.…

Esteban Osorio English 15A Zachary Clough February 18, 2016 A College Student’s Needs 18 million students are enrolled into college every year in the United States. Coincidentally, each student will be required to gain access to the internet as colleges become more technology dependent. With so many different kinds of computers out there, it can be a daunting choice to choose the correct one for their specific needs and that can readily meet their necessities for the years to come as a student. The MacBook Pro was the pc I went with, and it was an excellent choice although there are plenty of other options that are equally as worthy.…

I started my educational goals just like every other student. I graduated from high school with the ideal that I would accomplish my goals within a short amount of time. I would become rich and live happily ever after. I graduate top of my class and assumed that I would go straight to college to purse my dreams. Although I did not have a defined idea of what I wanted to do in life, I always wanted to help people.…

My first-year, second-semester writing class was Analytical Reading and Writing. My first impression of the course was that it is going to be a tough class but end up being reasonable it was neither too hard nor too easy. The class was designed to help improve and enhance critical thinking, reading, and writing skills. Learning how to identify key argument and supporting detail, how to synthesize texts. And throughout the semester I made an improvement on the areas of critical thinking, reading, and writing.…

My Learning Memoir I come from a city called Fuzhou, a middle-size city located in the southeast of China. There is a phenomenon that the Chinese always prefer boys over girls, especially in my hometown. My paternal grandparents and my father wanted a boy as well, whereas my mother gave birth to me, an unexpected girl, in 1997. My grandparents seemed not to accept that they got the second granddaughter after I was born. My grandmother made me keep my hair very short and brought me up like a boy before I went to the kindergarten at the age of three.…

I remember when I was 5, the first time I went to a building daily for 8 hours. I sat down on the cold blue chair. In front of me was a bin of crayons, all the colors of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and purple. I remember sitting in the cold room and having the freedom to draw marks on my blank sheet of paper. The dye scratching against the table, colors spreading across the canvas like the sun, rising in the early morning.…

A Classroom Story During my certification year I had several classroom observations that were conducted by members of my support team. My support team consisted of the principal, 6th grade specialist, and the FDRESA member. Not all members were required to sit in at every observation. One particular observation made me extremely proud of my students. It was just an ordinary observation and the students knew that someone would be dropping in just to observe the class and the focus of the observation would be on me, as a teacher.…

From sitting in class the first day to week 10, I have learned so much. My strongest gain from learning in this class is looking inbetween the lines and seeing if the sentance is a opinion, fact, or generalization. this step helps me determine what this articles is going to be, fact or opinion. I also have gotten faster at pointing out the main idea. One of my weakest abilities still is to connect with some topics, if they are too bland or boring its very hard for me to understand what the author is trying to say, by realizing this I can focus more on stories that are harder to connect with and get better at understanding them.…
