The Armenian Genocide was very similar to other cases of human rights violations because factors such as scapegoating were followed by dehumanization. From the beginning during the Ottoman Empire, Christians were discriminated against as they paid higher taxes than Muslims. During World War I, Armenians were scapegoated because of their Christian beliefs, which supposedly influenced their loyalty to their country. Similarly, in the Holocaust, Hitler blamed the Jews for all the economic problems in Germany; Jews were considered to be disloyal and naturally took advantage of other people.
