This article by Michel Norbet is about free tuition to college. He explains that a program called TOPS or Taylor Opportunity Program for Students is a program where students can receive free tuition to any Louisiana public college. Anyone that has a 2.5 GPA and has at least an 18 ACT is qualified to receive it. The program then pays for that person’s tuition. The money comes from the taxpayers which makes college not free because someone ends up paying for it. Free college tuition has increased the amount of people that attend college so many of the colleges have had to increase the number of professors and buildings to accommodate for the number of students. This has made colleges fight for funding where the smaller schools lose some of the money. There are many pros and cons to “free” tuition.
