Free community college for the first two years around the whole country many would either like this idea or dislike it. This idea was brought by President Barack Obama but some students from Rio Hondo College are disagreeing with his idea. Some think this isn’t a very good idea because there are some people who can afford paying for it and those who get low income get help which is practically free for them already. As in others think that it should be free which would allow students that want to go to college but they don’t receive enough funds to be able to go which ends up causing them to just work and not go to college due to low income. College shouldn’t be free if people can afford it and those who can’t should be getting help which

In article “As He Promotes it, Some Question Obama’s Free Community College Idea”, written by Joanne Jacobs, the proposition of free community college in America is met with some reasonable hesitation. While Barack Obama plans to give out free community college, students like Felipe Bezerra do not see the reason why President Obama would do this and disagrees with Obama’s plan stating that “‘Tuition shouldn’t be free’ for those who could afford it”, And frankly I agree with him. There are multiple reasons why this idea should not come to light, for one main reason that would affect everybody is money. The White house estimates that if free community college does become reality, it would cost $60 billion dollars over the course of 10 years.…

In Paul Pain’s article “Two Years of Free Community College” tells about President Obama’s proposal to make community college free for two years for students. This would provide a higher education to be more accessible to people who want to further their education. In the article we learn about the good things in having a free community college as well as the negative parts of it. Although there is many opinions to both sides my opinion and the side I am choosing is that a community college should not be free. These people have special benefits, they get the tuition for free and aside from getting the free tuition they get $5730 for books and for other expenses. This is the reason that there should not be free community college because if you don’t have the money then you will either way somehow get the help and if you have the money but don’t want to waste the money you can possibly get scholarships depending on your income. As a conclusion, community college should not be for free because they are already really full and the classes fill up so fast and if you make it free then some people won't get the education that they want because if classes being…

adults who realize that “free college” is not free at all. For college students paying tuition it could be hard to see the big picture. If college is “free” people will be paying that $70 billion through taxes and eventually those who are in college now wishing it was free will have to pay for it too in the future. Whether or not free college is a good idea is not the point, it is that this may be part of the reason the Democratic Party is divided when it comes to Sanders by age. Another reason Sanders may be popular among college students is he talks about social justice which is rampant in U.S. colleges.…

New Republic is opposed to it saying “The main problem with free college is that most students come from disproportionately well-off backgrounds and already enjoy disproportionately well-off futures, which makes them relatively uncompelling targets for public transfers.” Many disagree, saying “College should be free to all students. Just like students have a right to elementary and secondary education, students should have a right to obtain higher education. If a person has a desire to learn more, they should not be forced to stop learning after high school due to a lack of money or connections” (Academic OneFile). Students that have been raised in the middle or lower class may not have the income, work, and time to support them in top well known colleges.…

School is a necessary system worldwide to invest in a society 's future. The primary argument as to why educational institutions should be free in the U.S. is not to give everyone the equal opportunity to education as stated by Lawrence (a professor of History emeritus at SUNY Albany) although it is one of the reasons, the primary reason is to increase the number of educated workers to hopefully improve our economy. It is stated that an “educated work force has become an essential component of economic growth and competitiveness (Student Aid Alliance). However, college tuition filters out those who are not willing to pay for their education and also funds universities so that they are able to function and upgrade their facilities. College should not be free because it would lead to tax raises, the value of a degree would decline, and the overall quality of the educational environment would decrease.…
