Each of the speakers we had in our class this semester had their own leadership approach. They have each found their own unique way to use their leadership style to grow into successful businessmen and businesswomen. Throughout the semester they have shared their leadership advice and experiences with us. The three speakers that I feel had the most impact on me were James Spaniolo, John Goolsby, and Carolyn Mentesana. James Spaniolo’s presentation was very casual, yet energetic. He had a sense of humor, while still maintaining a level of professionalism. He was an excellent speaker who spoke with a lot of confidence and clarity. Throughout his speech, I got the impression that Mr. Spaniolo is a very humble, hard-working, and wise individual. …show more content…
His visit impacted me by helping me better understand what being in the Goolsby Leadership Academy is all about. Hearing the origin and mission of the academy coming from the founder himself truly resonated with me. It was exciting to be able to meet the man who created such a great opportunity for my fellow scholars and myself. As a Goolsby Scholar, I have constantly heard our professors talk about how great Mr. Goolsby is, and now that I had the opportunity to meet, him, I completely agree. John Goolsby is a very wise, humble, and caring man. During his presentation, he made it obvious how much he truly cares about helping students grow as leaders. He can be described as a charismatic leader. Being a charismatic leader does not simply mean teaching certain behaviors, it actually involves transforming followers’ values and beliefs. He has truly changed many people’s values and beliefs by everything he has done. Mr. Goolsby emphasized how important it is to prepare ourselves. Success does not just happen, we do not just stumble upon it, we earn it. In order to do that we must obtain a solid base of education and take advantage of all opportunities that are given to us. Some leadership elements can be taught, but some of them are the result of the experiences you have had and the people you have been exposed to. Some of the most important leadership traits to have include having a healthy …show more content…

Growing up, I viewed leadership as something I would not be able to possess. I saw leaders around me and it felt as though they had endless grace, charisma, and enjoyed public speaking. As someone who processes internally and is more of an introvert, leadership felt like something I would witness from afar, not possess. However, over time I have been able to refine what it means to be a leader and eliminate the idea of leadership as exclusionary. For me, being a leader is not necessarily being the loudest voice heard but speaking and acting with intention, taking the time to build connections through empathy and belief in individual worth, and embracing the ordinary.…

My leadership philosophy is one that is rooted in the strong belief that it must be a continuous quest to motivate all students to become critical thinkers, effective communicators, and lifelong learners, while possessing outstanding character. This includes assisting students with discovering their talents and interests, therefore developing a love of learning, while developing into ethical, productive citizens. Accomplishing this requires a leader who is knowledgeable in pedagogy and curriculum, including the use of data and current assessments to enhance instruction, and who possesses outstanding communication skills, the ability to manage an operation’s resources effectively, promotes collaboration and teamwork, and is passionate and committed to helping students learn. I believe that my interpersonal skills will be my biggest strength as an educational leader. Through frequent, honest communication, and my enthusiasm for the subject, I will demonstrate understanding and compassion for those around me, therefore building trusting relationships.…

Introduction As I reflect on this course and the results of the Questionnaires, Reflection, and Action Worksheets I have learned many aspects of leadership. I have analyzed the definition of leadership and now have a clearer understanding of it. According to, Introduction to Leadership; concepts and practice, by Peter Northouse (2015), leadership can be composed of many variables such as relationship, trait, ability, skill, behavior, and influence process. He also elaborates on how the “leadership of an individual can be used to influence a group to accomplish a common goal”. In addition, he discusses how leadership is not the same as management (Northouse, 2015, pp. 3-7).…
