What he endured as a black man playing on a white man’s baseball field is almost unimaginable. The death threats, the physical harm, the nasty comments and jeers from opposing teams and players - he took all of this and more without fighting back. He stayed calm and focused on the job ahead of him: changing not just baseball, but the world forever. Robinson was so much more than a great athlete. He was a true man and a true leader. He showed his amazing leadership skills in every action that he made, on and off the field. He began his journey with the end result in sight. His name is Neil Sanders. Neil is my youth pastor at Grace Community Church, but what he does goes far beyond that title. Neil has helped me develop as a man of God and a leader ever since I first met him. Neil always puts value in the most important things in life, which is his faith in Christ. He helps me do the same in life - focus on what really matters. It’s not money, sports, or academics. It’s not popularity. It’s the way that a person uses his gifted life to make a purposeful, Christ-centered impact on the world. In my opinion, that is the definition of a true leader.
