Statement Of Purpose: ALA Leadership Institute

Improved Essays
I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Innovative Interface for providing the funding which ensures the sustainability and success of the ALA leadership Institute.
To put it in very reductive terms, the leadership institute has had a major impact on my life. I now think of my professional life in terms of pre and post leadership institute. The institute helped me actualize some of my strengths and uncover my deficits. I was able to identify and solidify my leadership style (authentic and creative) which led me to adapt new ways and alter my existing management practices.
Maureen and Kathryn, two of the best educators in the field exposed me to the theories and philosophies of leadership which I found to be more than just concepts.

Leadership Profile Essay One of the largest gaps in Jewish thought that is highly relevant today is that of Chassidic versus non-Chasidic thinking. We take our cue from our revered leaders with regard to what approach to take, and use their remarkable teachings to back our individual choices. The foremost leaders in the realms of Chassidic versus non-Chassidic thinking are most certainly Reb Yisrael ben Eliezer, better known as the Baal Shem Tov, and Reb Eliyahu ben Shlome Zalman, who is commonly referred to as the holy Vilna Goan or simply as the Goan. These two highly esteemed Jewish leaders are the primary voices on these topics of opposition, and as much as their approaches were radically different from each other, they were both brilliant…

Todd Whitaker provides techniques for principals to evaluate their personal leadership style against highly effective principals in his book, What Great Principals Do Differently. Dr. Todd Whitaker states that this book is about what great principals do that sets them apart. Clarifying what the best leaders do, and then practicing it ourselves, can move us into their ranks (Whitaker, 2009). The goal of a great leader is to help teachers understand and improve their practices and to gauge the effectiveness of their instruction. Educational leadership is constructed with knowledge acquired from many sources, and self-evaluation and experience help solidify leadership.…

As an undergraduate at DePauw University, I have worked hard to earn the grades and experiences necessary for me to go to graduate school. Despite the large sum of student loan debt I have collected in compensation for my education. No one in my family has attended a four-year institution, making me a first generation college student and subsequently the trial run for the family. I went to college with no savings and the understanding that I would be taking the financial burden. I love learning and I have a passion for geology, I declared the major as a first year.…

Personal leadership / management style analysis During my first few weeks in the field experience course, I have noticed the complexity of leadership and management that is involved in the work field. Both, a leader and a manager are very important people in an organization. According to Collins (2001), managers and leaders “exist in different forms, roles and responsibilities”; as a result, Five Level Hierarchy exists, where level one has highly capable individuals, two is contributing team member, three is competent manager, four is an effective leader, and finally five is an executive. A great leader must be an effective communicator in order to lead a group of people in order to accomplish a goal or vision.…

I became interested in Wake Forest University because it is known for its school of medicine and also because the architecture of the school gives off the feeling of history. Meaning that the way the school is in physical and reputation wise allows others to understand that Wake Forest University has a rich history behind it. But the architecture is not the only reason why I am applying the other reason as I said before is because of its famous school of medicine. I know that if I study there I would get all the required and accurate information I need in order to reach my career goal. It would also make my parents proud seeing me, one of the first people in our family to go to college, prosper and graduate from a school highly ranked for many…

The main idea of the book I choose the book “Act like a leader, think like a leader, by Herminia Ibarra, which is inspirational read for everyone who has a passion for leading. Ibarra, redefines the traditional leadership notion of “think first, and then act’’ by acting first and then thinking. She described The “Outsight Principle” which is the mine idea of this book. Through the implementation of the “outsight principle”, Ibarra believes that one can improve or develop into an effective leader. This principle attests that the only way to think like a leader is to first act it out and that is to come out of ones’ comfort zone by start doing changes and more experiences.…

My first leadership experience came from being a voluntary work as a life- and management skills trainer, where I had to deal with different background, minds and studies trainees, to be the leader of my own session, the thing that let me build my communication, discussion and presentation skills. After that I started working as assistant supervisor in a psychological support centre for the international medical corps, where I had the chance to deal with very professional and creative people, the hardest thing was being accepted as the youngest member of the team and to be known as a leader , but being in this atmosphere…

People in general are diverse and have distinct components which make them unique and sets them apart from the next person. Among all of our distinct characteristics and appreciations for various subjects, many of us bring assorted passions and expertise on different topics. Even in recognizing my own interests and passions, I have yet to fully carry out a business concept I created back in 2011 which is still not in existence today. Recognizing there is still a desire to pursue my idea, while feeling disappointment for not executing its existence, I’m intrigued with James Kouzes’ and Barry Posner’s ability to spearhead the concept of leadership and become experts on their passion for organizational leadership. I agree, meeting these…

My leadership philosophy is one that is rooted in the strong belief that it must be a continuous quest to motivate all students to become critical thinkers, effective communicators, and lifelong learners, while possessing outstanding character. This includes assisting students with discovering their talents and interests, therefore developing a love of learning, while developing into ethical, productive citizens. Accomplishing this requires a leader who is knowledgeable in pedagogy and curriculum, including the use of data and current assessments to enhance instruction, and who possesses outstanding communication skills, the ability to manage an operation’s resources effectively, promotes collaboration and teamwork, and is passionate and committed to helping students learn. I believe that my interpersonal skills will be my biggest strength as an educational leader. Through frequent, honest communication, and my enthusiasm for the subject, I will demonstrate understanding and compassion for those around me, therefore building trusting relationships.…
