During this period I have met so many people with various way of thinking, where I succeed dealing with them each time.

The Leadership Challenge discusses “strengthen (ing) resilience” (pp 206). I am the kind of person who wants all of my ducks in a row so when one or two are out of line, I get flustered not to mention overwhelmed to the point wanting to quit. The past few years have been one of loss in various ways; my father’s passing, my beloved pet for nine years passing, my husband’s illness, the loss of our house as well as the loss of my husband’s and partner’s business. Even though we are still reeling with the impact of what we have been hit with, we continue to encourage one another emotionally to look ahead, not dwell on the past.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

My leadership experience began when my supervisor and his colleagues had an important meeting to attend and had no one sitting in on the office for intake office hours, so he asked me and another intern, Isaiah, to sit in from 9 AM-3PM. My supervisor taught us the main component of this position in 10 minutes. At first, I was nervous because I was new to the agency and it was my first time performing front desk duties. But after a couple of clients I began to get more comfortable and confident with the process because I had performed similar duties when I was in my cubicle. At this moment I felt like I was a leader because I was put in a position where I had minimum training, but still could take control of the office duties, and according to my supervisor, my performance level was beyond expectations.…

My first interview was performed on my grandmother. I chose her because I knew she could give me insight that a modern couple could not, since she and her husband met approximately 70 years ago. I also knew that she would be very open to discussing her relationship with me, so I knew it would not be awkward. Her husband unfortunately had passed away about twenty years ago, so he could not be there to give his side. In the interview, we discussed where and how they met, how old they are, if religion affected the relationship, the little things that kept the marriage happy and good, as well as her attraction to him.…

There are many challenges to being a leader. Being strong, but not rude; proud, but not arrogant; kind, but not weak. A leader has to recognize their weaknesses more often than their strengths in order to grow. Through the modules of Course 15 and NCOA-ILE, I have learned that I am a Transformational Leader with room for improvement in the Transactional areas. The foundation of my leadership knowledge was acquired from practical experience in the work force, which I supplemented through my educational pursuits. Prior to my current position as a finance and operations manager I held various positions where I proved myself to be someone that was organized and dedicated to effectively implementing policy and procedures. I oversaw a staff of 20 individuals in two departments. When I began I had very little management experience but pulled from past encounters with ineffective managers to decide how I would lead.…
