Through the semester my understanding of writing improved, when the semester started I felt like I was all over the place in my writing, there was no structure. But, with the help of Dr. St. Michel, I have learned different approaches making my writing more organized. I feel like I have improved my writing skills over the semester, however that information should have been learned in high school. I know I will need to improve my writing skills since many jobs require it, some employers even use that as a standard for hiring like Kyle Wiens talks about in the article I Won’t Hire People Who Use Poor Grammar. This affects how the structure of the writing is going to be once structure is decided then I can choose what type of style will be needed. One example of how different criteria can change the style of writing is what the topic will be about or genera. Just as important is the audience this will completely change the wording of the essay depending on the audience. If the audience is a set of people, then the writing must be written in a way that appeals to that set of people. Writing a narrative also has its own style it must be written in the first persons point of view compared to writing in third person. When writing in first person I have learned that I should write as if I were talking to myself, using I, me, and myself. Third person should be written as if you were looking at the story happening and telling the story of what happened as a third persons point of view. This is used more for summaries and other types of writings that are not personal essays or narratives. For me I would have to say the purpose of the writing is the hardest thing to do. Purpose on a paper is what the writing is meant to do, if the writing is intended to be a summary then the paper should be strictly about what the summary of something is. On the other hand, if you have a personal narrative, and you must write about your life then the writing should include opinions and first person styles. Purpose for writing can be for anything it could be a letter to the governor or the government, a complaint letter or a thank you letter it can be a professional letter or just a letter to a friend. Point is that there is always going to be an audience, a genera or purpose for writing you just must know wat those things are and what style of writing you must use. If the above guidelines are followed, then there shouldn’t be too many issues with the style of writing that

When a teacher will usually assign an essay that will be about 2-3 pages long, with an introduction, body, and conclusion. In college, students are supposed to write in a different manner.
