Difference Between High School And College English Class

As soon as one graduates from high-school and moves on to attend a College or University, students will eventually get the taste of a college level course. When moving onto college, students must be enrolled in an English class. Whether it is remedial or a college level, they must take it. Some people might be startled by how different college English can be, because the way one has to write is very different compared to what they have done previously in their high-school English class. This transition can be difficult and sometimes frustrating for many new students because the material we learn is different in many ways. However, all students need to understand the difference between in both a high-school and college English class. Every college freshman has to face an English class. It can be a little overwhelming at times for some at first because unlike high-school, where one meets with teachers an hour a day for 5 days a week, in college, students are to meet with their professor 2 or 3 times a week for only 2-3 hours a week. In high-school, one is told what to write about and have to follow a certain type of rubric. When a teacher will usually assign an essay that will be about 2-3 pages long, with an introduction, body, and conclusion. In college, students are supposed to write in a different manner. For example, students in English 5A are taught to write in a more personal, public or academic style of writing. We are taught that for a personal essay, one is supposed to write using arguments and explanations about how one feels about a certain situation. In a public essay, on is supposed to address their essay to the public and persuade them. The purpose of an academic essay is to inform and use sources in the essay to clarify/explain the argument one is
