Personal Narrative: My Experience As A Writer

Over the first semester I feel I have been appropriately challenged in the area of writing we have done this year. I learned many new skills, but the most important one involves English and how to write properly. As for the first writing, I really did not understand what was right and what was wrong. Because I never paid close attention to specific rules in how to write. I truly believe it has been hard for me. I really have to concentrate when writing to be able to fully complete me sentences. I am satisfied with my overall experiences as a writer, because I have exceeded my self-expectations when typing or writing, but there is always room for improvement. Especially in sentence order and correct grammar such as commas.
The skills I acquired this semester helped further develop my skills as a writer. Specifically, the ability to quote books. My vocabulary increases almost every year from new words being created or just learning them from my parents. Having to quote an author or character came in handy in the Into the Wild essay. Such as when I was quoting Jon Krakauer’s writing, “… What is this titan that has

I went about writing the paper just as I would any other essay, except I added the poster component. I thought I wrote this specific essay faster than any other, since it was only suppose to be a paragraph or page. I went into depth on each picture by explaining why they represented transcendentalist views for example a herd of white sheep with one lone black sheep this shows nonconformity. According to the rubric I had a unique approach to the project and overall, I exceeded basic requirements. This is one reason I received 50 out of 50 points. I believe that so far, this was the biggest project (regarding points) other than this portfolio. What makes me so proud of this piece is I received no help whatsoever from any source, which shows how capable I am of obtaining a good score by

At the beginning of the quarter I didn’t know nearly half of what I know now, I thought literacy was the ability to read, write, and have knowledge of writing. I never would have guessed literacy also means knowledge in a specific area. My writing skills have also came a long ways since the beginning of the quarter. I have written 5 papers including this one, and I’m sure the newest is better than the one before.…

I didn’t know what I was in for after that day. A writer’s key experiences is what makes them different from other writers and is crucial to their growth as a writer. The writing I composed in Mrs. Heningburg’s class was central to my development as a writer because it made me more confident in my writing and made me more aware of others reading my work as a writer. After hearing my last writing assignment's result in the class, I started expecting a high scoring on my writing works. The compliment about my essay from my sixth-grade teacher changed me, so let's start from the beginning.…

I learned that all the prewriting is not the same there are different formats of writing. I haven't learned which essay writing best fits me. I believe that the one that fits me the most is the free writing because I can just write down anything and continue without stopping. I can write to whatever comes to mind and even though it doesn't make any sense I still write it down I feel that most of my best writing comes from free style writing. I can only do my best when I feel that I am able to more work under pressure and that I can relieve a lot of my stress by writing.…

Who You Are As A Writer gave me the opportunity to truly discover what my writing process was. It wasn’t just a superficial overview of what it might be, it was an in-depth definitive assignment that showed me some of my weaknesses and strengths when it comes to writing. I had to identify what was hindering my writing and understand that maybe it was either time for me to adapt the rule to the situation at hand or get rid of it altogether. The first portion of Who You Are As A Writer, Portrait of a Writer, allowed me to think about what rules I use during my writing consciously and subconscious; it also me look back at past experiences that have shaped my writing process.…

Whether we know it or not in this modern society we are writers everyday of our lives. These interactions shape not only how we communicate but how we write as well. Personally, I have been shaped by the influence of both other writers I have known and those I have only read the creations of. Those same influences contributed to both my writing style in the classroom and to my identity as a writer. I spent a lot of my childhood with my nose deep in fiction novels at near by libraries.…

By looking back at my writing experiences, I can tell that writing does not come naturally to me and find it to be a real challenge. I may think I did well while writing but in reality I did horrible. It takes me a while to write a paper then other people and there tends to be plenty of problems that try to slow me down. One of the hardest problems I have while writing is trying to find the right words to say. Every time I write I always take longer than anyone else because I always second guess what I just wrote and have to rewrite what I am trying to say.…

When I was younger, I would eat up books faster than I got them. I’d frequently been caught reading books in the zaniest of places. I remember wanting to try writing, although I could never fully convey the words in my mind onto paper. Every once in a blue moon when I was able to; only I could understand what I wrote. It had fascinated me, and honestly frustrated me, that people could write these whimsical and arcane books that I’d held onto like a mother to her child.…

Writing has never been one of my strongest skills nor my favorite. Even though I enjoy reading another person’s writing the thought of someone else reading mine just sends chills down my spine. I wouldn’t consider myself a decent writer whatsoever. This defiantly gets in the way of how I feel about writing at times, because it makes me insecure of what others are going to think after they finish reading my essay. When I signed up for ENGL 1301 I was quick to assume the course was just going to consist of reading a lot of material and taking quizzes that covered the readings.…

It is understandable that this piece might be seen as in need of the most improvement. While it is not the worst in a sense of technicality or grammar, I feel that it suffers from a lack of opinion. I think this piece is my worst because it has no strong message or new information. It may be correct academically, but it is almost a waste of a paper since it doesn’t add any substantial knowledge to myself as a student. This perspective might be a little harsh on myself, however I think it dramatically illustrates my later improvement when compared to my last few essays.…
