Personal Narrative: My Mission Trips

Decent Essays
I was only 14 when I went on my mission trip, but experiencing that such a young age has shaped me for who I am. I was involved in three mission trips, which all occurred in the States, but in all three-mission trips I helped people who I believe needed it most. I was proud of what I did and I think it was something that not a lot of people did at my age. One of my biggest motivators were the people I was helping. After going on my first trip, I had bonded with others and had made me realize what the real world is like outside a small town in Iowa. They motivate me to keep helping people in need everyday.

As soon as I turned 14, my father said, “You need a job.” We bickered back and forth about what kind of job I could get, or which employer

If I could do something I've never done before, I would go on a missions trip. I would choose to do this because ever since I was younger, about in seventh grade, I have felt a call to go to Japan and minister. I feel like if God has given me the idea, it is meant to happen sometime in his plan for me. I would also want to go on a missions trip because that is what God has commanded us to do; spread his word. Taking this opportunity and using it to honor God would be just what he would want me to…

There are times when I enjoy charting the waters on my own and times when I welcome the kindred spirits of fellow travelers on my journeys. If you are new to this type of traveling or if you would just like to make your trips better, there are certain behaviors and attitudes that are different when traveling with a group of two or more people. Here are some suggestions that I have taking note of in my group travels: In order to take care of your own personal needs in this trip, make sure you are realistic and also creative about what you pack. The Plane Ride When I was nine my family started a move from the tranquil suburbs of San Jose, California to the desert city of Windhoek, Namibia, located in southern Africa. My parents were taking myself, along with my younger sister and brother, around the globe because they felt a calling from God to be missionaries. All of our possessions were sold off, including my much beloved toys, until everything we had could fit into eight large suitcases. These suitcases are what we carried to the airport as we prepared for our journey. I felt no small amount of apprehension and excitement in what lay ahead of me in the new country, but an event I would experience in the coming flight would forever change and shape my perspective of how I see the…

As a child, I have seemingly been over-achieving and a hard worker. I wanted to become independent at a young age, while all my friends wanted to play I stayed in the classroom working on assignments . When my siblings and I, were younger, my parents would tell us stories of how they struggled at a young age to find a stable job in the crop fields. They were in their teens when they started working long hours, from sunrise till the sunset, wearing long sleeves, sweaty handkerchiefs around their faces, dirty boots, and carrying a canteen of water. I soon caught on how hard-working and independent my parents were, which made me realize I should go find a job when I turn 16…
