In this essay I am going to tell you about how going on a mission trip with my church changed my life for the better. Have you ever had a moment in your life where you knew you would remember forever? "It will be a good experience!" My mother told me this hundreds of times before I went; however, I was still on the fence about going on the trip.
My church had planned this trip for months. I was sixteen years old and had never attended a mission trip with my youth group before. I was worried that I would not enjoy it. That is a reason that I was hesitant to go. I did not like leaving home for long periods of time, because I like being able to come home to my own bed every night. After a lot of praying, I convinced myself to go.
With my suitcase, I loaded the old bus with some of my friends and we embarked on to Shelby, North Carolina. Upon our arrival, I had never felt so welcomed. Five churches came together and stayed at a large church in Shelby and with that many people in one building for 7 days, it was easy to develop friendships. Everyone was exceptionally kind and anyone that started a conversation with you made you feel so comfortable. This forced me out of my comfort zone immediately.

In those groups, we were assigned a house to work on that we either painted, built ramps for, put on a roof, completed yard work, or assisted in a soup kitchen. My group painted a small house, white. We had five days to complete painting it and we finished the project in three short days. I had one of the hardest working groups out them all. In the 95 degree weather for 8 hours a day, we worked and did not stop until the job was done. Even with setbacks like not having the right tools, hot weather, and injuries, we still got the job

    Martin's Cove Trek Report

This July I had the privilege to walk in the footsteps of the Mormon pioneers in Martin’s Cove. Although the Trek was somewhat difficult, I had many great spiritual experiences. While pulling and pushing a handcart for 7 miles a day was difficult, surprisingly, the hardest part of the Trek for me was enduring the 12 hour long car ride back, because I had to ride in the deacon’s car with them singing along to Taylor Swift, and singing the pillow pet commercial theme song. The experiences that I had on this trek were different from the ones I had as a deacon on my first trek.…

I was only 14 when I went on my mission trip, but experiencing that such a young age has shaped me for who I am. I was involved in three mission trips, which all occurred in the States, but in all three-mission trips I helped people who I believe needed it most. I was proud of what I did and I think it was something that not a lot of people did at my age. One of my biggest motivators were the people I was helping. After going on my first trip, I had bonded with others and had made me realize what the real world is like outside a small town in Iowa.…

Mission Outreach Project: The experience at Mission outreach project was incredible. Because I thought that kind of places is only for homeless, I was surprised that some well-dressed seniors, who didn't look like homeless, were also there. It is very nice that volunteer workers there not only provide those people food and clothes but also are providing them a place to socialize with others. I wish we could have had time to talk to some of them.…

Every year my church nominates fifteen young adults to go on an annual mission trip to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. I was honored when I was selected to go because it showed me that the adults in my life recognized the hard work and dedication I am willing to put into everything I do. Through out the whole summer I was on the vacation bible school committee and organized food, games, and crafts for the children that we would be interacting with. But then, about a month before we were set to leave for the trip, my best friend asked me if I would like to go to Cancun with her family because her sister couldn't make it but, it was the same week that the mission trip was happening. This desicion was very hard for me.…

As a young kid, I would always go to the cabinets in our kitchen to look for food. Every time the doors opened and I saw the canned green beans alongside the uncooked pasta, my mom upstairs would hear me yell, “we don’t have anything to eat”. Being a kid, you really do not think of anyone but yourself. It isn't that kids are selfish, they just have not been taught the art of selflessness. Kids also are not very grateful for what they have because they do not understand the value and privilege of being able to buy toys, clothing, and food.…

I began to pray and press more into the Bible to discover what I could speak about in Colombia. After weeks of studying and prayer, it came to me - I would speak about the importance of trust. Throughout the rest of the year and up to a few weeks before the trip, I drafted my message. As the date of the mission’s trip came closer and closer, the more worried I became. My utmost fear in the world at the time was public speaking.…

This mission trip was doing so much on my heart. I had never felt so in love with my surrounding and I loved working with the children and building so many relationships. My ultimate joy was knowing that I had a role in helping these children learn and build relationships with God. My heart was called. It was then that I realized God may be changing or adding to my Calling, by calling me back to Poland to continue teaching, only for a more permanent stay.…

They asked me the one question that I had to answer throughout this process: “Why?” Everyone tried to deter me to going: they kept saying that it’s too far, too cold, too lonely. Whatever advantage that I said, it seemed to them like it was just a bad idea. After much deliberation, they decided to support my dream, and agreed to my idea. Another person that I said this to was Jessie: my life-long friend.…

The Sunday School Easter program was about to begin at Bethesda Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. For my last time speaking in front of the congregation before leaving for Tennessee State University (TSU), I was charged with introducing the speaker of the program. As I stood in front of hundreds of people to recite the introduction that I wrote, I was confident and thoughts of how far I had come since giving my life to Christ ran thru my mind. My spiritual journey began when I was about 5 years old when I decided to give my life to Christ. I did not realize at that time the impact this church would have on me in the future.…

In this essay, I am going to describe and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of engaging in missions using the lens of reason, with a brief overview of two other lenses: Tradition and experience. I will present ideas from the perspectives of my father, a missionary and my granduncle, the Right Reverend Datuk Bolly Lapok. Also I will share my experience of dealing with Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) and Depression through poetry and spoken word and how those platforms impacted many who come across them. The key voices in this essay are Graham Tomlin, Stephen Bevans, Jin Huat Tan and William J. Abraham. The word “mission” is derived from a Latin word “missio” which means, to send, to release or to participate.…

I have a divine calling on my life. It is to convincingly communicate the truth of God to all people. I do not claim the ability to define just how God calls any man or woman, nonetheless, in the very heart of my soul, I hear God’s still, small voice wooing me to commission. I am burdened with the plight of humankind without God. This call was initiated at my conversion and further confirmed through a mission experience in Mexico, during the first eighteen months of confessing Christ as my Lord and Savior.…

Good afternoon Elders and Sisters. It is a privilege to be able to share my thoughts, feelings, and testimony with all of you today. I hope that what is said will invite the Spirit and will then enlighten and edify us all to help us in the work in which we are engaged, as well as in our personal lives. Seeing as this is a “reflection”, I would like to “reflect” on some of the things that have really helped me on my mission. As many of you know, it is impossible to cram two years of experience and learning into one short summary.…
