First Mission Trip

Last year I went on my first mission trip to repair an elderly man and woman's house. When we were finished and I saw the look on their face I wanted to do so much more. This experience reminded me why I love God and love helping people find a relationship with him. To help people find a relationship with God, youth need to travel to other countries and show the effects of God and be involved so more people can join the body of believers.
One way to spread the word of the lord is to travel to other countries. ‘"I can tell you story after story.’ God has taken us through thick and thin ad we are still serving him. ‘We're truly grateful that we're still impacting that country, for the Lord.’"(Chase). Even though her life has been tough she is still working for the lord. Chase and her church are working in Haiti to raise churches, schools, and feeding many children (Chase). The work of Chase and her Church is changing lives and bring churches in other countries. “Haiti is actually the poorest country in our

Weasly mentions “His teaching establishes that Christians should be socio-politically involved and that this involvement is motivated by the character and activity of God as displayed in Jesus’ ministry”. To spread the word of God people should be actively involved in the community. According to Wisemen “Conversely, 31% of teens who seldom or never attend church believe the Bible is a book of fables and legends, compared with just 3% of weekly attendees and 6% among nearly weekly or monthly attendees”(Wismen). Wismen is saying how a low percentage of people are involved with the church. “In contrast, 69% of Catholic teens believe the Bible is the inspired -- but not literal -- word of God, as do 42% of Protestant teens”(Wisemen). Protestant means a follower away from the Roman Catholic Church like a Baptist, presbyterian, and Lutheran. The church needs involvement and higher

The Protestant Reform began in the sixteenth century when several church leaders, including Martin Luther, protested against some of the practices and abuses of the Catholic Church. They could not have reformed the Roman Catholic Church from within; therefore, they broke off and formed their own branch of Catholicism. Some differences that were established during the reform were the religious authority of Catholicism is the Pope and church hierarchy and of Protestantism is the Bible, the ordination of clergy is through Apostolic succession, while in Protestantism it is by individual congregations, church sacraments are channels of God’s grace while in Protestantism God’s grace is granted to all believers. In addition, some differences include…

Christ as the center of human existence means that he is our judgment and justification” (Bonhoeffer, Christ the Center/Christology 60). Now that the truth is in us, it must be shared with all. This is what Roberts calls the Proclaimed Kingdom, for Acts 1:4, 8, says, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Jesus commands them to spread his word, to tell all nations about the good news of salvation. Jesus says in Matthew 28:19-20, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.…

In 1985 director John Hughes released the movie “The Breakfast Club.” The movie is about five very different high school students who become friends over a day spent in detention. The movie ends with the students leaving the school, returning to their ordinary lives. The first time I watched this movie, my parents asked me if I thought the characters would say hi to each other on the next day of school. I optimistically replied yes.…

Every year my church nominates fifteen young adults to go on an annual mission trip to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. I was honored when I was selected to go because it showed me that the adults in my life recognized the hard work and dedication I am willing to put into everything I do. Through out the whole summer I was on the vacation bible school committee and organized food, games, and crafts for the children that we would be interacting with. But then, about a month before we were set to leave for the trip, my best friend asked me if I would like to go to Cancun with her family because her sister couldn't make it but, it was the same week that the mission trip was happening. This desicion was very hard for me.…

I asked myself the question “how can we make a long-term effect on a short-term mission trip?” This idea centered around the lessons we were teaching the children throughout the day. I noticed that the children we well informed about God and how to become a Christian. Pastor Vernon gives them lessons every week, probably the same lessons we were giving them. The children were hungry for more than a preschool version of the bible.…

In my perspective, growing up in public elementary, intermediate and high schools for example, the students who were “cool” didn’t go to church and would partake in things that were “un-Christ like.” Do I necessarily agree with that statement? No, but the mass majority of our school did. I believe this is why children who grow up in public schools have a harder time keeping or growing in their relationships with God. Personally out of all of my friends I was the only one going to mass on a regular basis.…

Being confident and successful is one thing, but the humbling experience of putting another’s need above one’s own is what can help a person be even more successful. We help to teach the lesson of service starting in Junior High with the confirmations students, and they have several nights in a year where they are either to serve someone, or they can have some fellowship time. Most of the time we alternate the nights. The lesson about service then moves on to Senior High where all of the students have the opportunity to join in on a mystery road trip where service is one of the main aspects of the trip. The youth get a variety of service projects ranging from Habitat for Humanity, to Boys and Girls Clubs, to homeless shelters and many more.…

God’s global agenda, that sounds like one overwhelming task because of it’s immensity. Luckily I was blessed with the oppurtunity to interview two increidble pastors and ask them what they think about it. I was able to speak to Tirsha Thornbury, youth pastor of Conejo Valley Community Church, and Glen Barnes, head pastor at First Baptist Church of Lodi. They broke down what they think God’s global agenda is and how both of them as individuals and as head of a church body are able to contribute to it.…
