All health professionals should be educated to deliver patient centered care as members of an interdisciplinary team, emphasizing evidence-based practice, quality improvement approaches and informatics. I was not able to perform all 5 steps, but I was able to provide safe patient care by identifying with, respecting, and caring about the patients, acknowledging their difference of opinion, preferences, and expressed needs. I tried to relieve their pain and suffering by listening, communicating and educating them based on my knowledge of mental health and communication techniques I have learned during the semester.
