1. I chose nursing as my profession because nursing is my calling. Nursing is a noble profession and I have always looked up to nurses as role models. Day in and day out nurses put their patient’s lifes and needs above their own. I have always enjoyed caring for others and helping them to the best of my abilities. Working in a healthcare setting confirmed my beliefs that I would love healthcare. I enjoy the atmosphere, the groups of professionals, and I absolutely love working with my patients. I also chose nursing because of job security and the many avenues for personal growth that are available.

Culture “determines the lens through which all other aspects of life are viewed and experienced and includes an individual’s health beliefs and practices” (Black, 2017, p. 250). I need to be sensitive to the cultural differences of my fellow health care professionals. Culture is influenced by ones family, past experiences, and religious beliefs. We are all different, so I must remain open-minded and increase my knowledge base of other cultures around me. My fellow health care professionals and myself have a common goal, to improve patient outcomes and health. Interproffessional collaboration is very important in healthcare. Communication breakdown can occur and may result in patient errors if I do not practice strong communication skills. Black (2017) discusses key components for effective interprofessional collaboration (p. 252). A few of these include, “value contributions of other disciplines, self awareness, knowledge of one’s own limits, and willingness to learn (Black, 2017, p. 252)”. I plan to use the key components listed by Black (2017) to guide my interactions with my fellow health care professionals and promise to treat all of my fellow health care professionals with the utmost
