Misconceptions Of The Feminism Movement

There is a very common misconception that feminism is a movement with the purpose of only helping women. This is not true. Both women and men, young and old can be feminists. Many people do not support this movement because they believe that what it stands for does not apply to them selves. Feminism is the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities. This simple definition involves both genders. There are a few reasons why people should consider becoming feminist, which are: it is inclusive, claiming the feminist identity does not limit the person in any way, and we should all want equality for each other. There is no right or wrong way to be a feminist. Just because someone is a feminist, that does not mean they cannot do certain things. For example, a woman can be a stay at home mom and still be a feminist as well as a man can enjoy sports and still be a feminist. There are no limitations when it comes to feminism. It empowers someone to do whatever he or she want that feels right for him or her. Lastly, everyone should become a feminist for this main reason, which is, wanting equality. Though the misconception is that feminism just benefits women, it benefits men as well. It allows us to be open-minded and not be afraid of breaking these gender roles that society deem as acceptable. These gender roles have created a divide between women and men that has created unequal opportunity. If more people start to join the feminist movement then there could be more equal opportunity. Feminism is a powerful movement that empowers women, men, and transgender. It truly benefits everyone. If people start becoming more open-minded about it and not just see it as a “women’s problem” then there could be some big changes to these social norms that society has
