Personal Essay: A Day Without Feminism

Great Essays
I love feminism. I am a much braver woman because of feminism. Women and men need feminism, just like we need air. We have so many opportunities and things to be thankful for because of feminism. I have hundreds of reasons why I needed feminism, and how I have become a better person because of it. Due to feminism, I have gained more confidence in a healthy body image, a greater understanding of my sister’s sexual orientation, and a greater moral compass.
I would never want to go back to a world without feminism. Women had to stay home, clean, cook, smile, always be ready to “please” their hard working husbands. Women were supposed to have children, be godly, and have no desire to “get their hands dirty” or sweat playing sports. According to the textbook, A Day without Feminism, “After 30 years of feminism, the world in which we inhabit barely resembles the world we were born into. And there’s still a lot left to do.” I know I am so thankful for what we have so far, and so excited to see where we

My voice is loud and strong against sexual harassment, from whatever gender. I can see and point out that even men and women who say they are feminist can be manipulative and sexist. I understand victim-blame, and hate it and will never do it again. Everyone deals with trauma in their own way, I am not to tell them how to express themselves, but just now to be a better listener.
I am thankful for this class and feminism for changing my mind and opening my eyes to these and so many more ways that feminism is essential to my growth and wellbeing. Feminism is not just women wanting everything that men have, it is a complex and beautiful web of being, feeling, knowing, respecting and loving each and every other human as you would if they were straight, gay, trans, pansexual, asexual, or however they choose to identify as. Feminism is essential to me and has changed my life in a profound and positive way

Feminism helped a woman named Rebecca Hurdis understand herself and it aided her in being paralyzed from speaking her mind to having self made, limitless potential (364). Feminism can be an extraordinary thing and help millions of women all round the world not only achieve equality but find themselves. There is a problem though, “Many women believe that there is a certain required persona to be a feminist (364).” This persona, assumed to be the radical strong feminist, has most likely been the drive for other women to stay away. All of the prospective good feminism could bring might just dissipate without women that would be willing to commit due to…

It was important to learn more about feminism through Gina Messina, a speaker that came and spoke at Viterbo University, and through various movies watched, and plays read. I think that it was very important that this class was focused through the perspective of theatre because it allowed me to see a completely different side of the world. It is a completely different world especially if you focus on way women are treated at their place of work. Before this course, I never realized some of the everyday struggles that women have to face especially in the world of theatre and entertainment.…

Women have always struggled in the fight to gain equality with men, despite the many major advances; society still has a long way to go in addressing the issue of gender inequality. The term Feminism dates back to the 1880s and was coined in France. The idea spread to Britain and then following to the United States. The first and second waves lasted from the 1880s all the way up to the 1980s. These two waves can be seen as helpful and any arguments against that statement will not hold up to any scrutiny. People like Christina Hoff Sommers, a reputable economist and author of “Whole Stole Feminism?”, believe the third wave has become nothing but harmful to our society.…

This is especially true for women are beginning to be a true power in this world, with women becoming CEO’S of companies, and running for major offices. People need to realize that times are changing in the twenty-first century for women and today feminism is required to be successful in job fields like politics where women are taking a stand and becoming more assertive, in the home where single mothers who work are still producing children who help society, and in the workplace, where women still need to make a stand to make the same pay and have gender equality.…
