The streaks of bright light outlined all of the grinning faces of the Vernon Hills High School Symphony Orchestra. The immense collaboration of endless hours of rehearing Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 5 for the Midwest audition piece to burning through Berlioz’s Benvenuto Cellini at Midwest. I can say that orchestra is part of who I am. Without orchestra, I would not have been able to encounter some of the amazing musicians that I have come to known. The fine arts is more than just a hobby or an activity on the sideline, it has molded my identity and interests. Some of the major events that came out from orchestra has allowed me to embrace different cultures, experience opportunities that only a few could imagine, and personal growth both musically and academically.
One of the eye-opening experience that I was able to be part of was when the high school orchestra went to Spain for Spring Break. It was there that I witnessed the international appreciation of classical and orchestral music. I distinctly remember the audience in Granada giving us a standing ovation as well as an encore. I am pretty positive that we played the song Granada about three times before officially ending the concert. It was also from this experience that the

From the countless opportunities of volunteering for the summer music camp to the dedication in performing at concerts, these events have allowed me to look for a college that will be able to test both myself academically and through extracurriculars. Through the phrase that I have heard from day one of orchestra, “Practice makes perfect”. I know that the endurance of practicing and perfecting an art is essential to overcome obstacles and improve oneself. As I pursue my career to become a nurse, I will integrate the lessons that I have learned from my fellow peers and

Jazz History Concert Report II For my final concert writing critique, I decided to attend the live Ball State Student Jazz Combos on Tuesday, November 8; this event took place in Choral Hall inside of the university’s Music Instruction Building. The wooden hall was smaller than I thought it would have been, but it gave the concert setting a more intimate feel. There were three groups presenting that day, each under a different director. Because each group did not have a specific name, I had to label them based on the order in which they performed.…

On Sunday, June 21st, I went to see the Dallas Symphony Orchestra perform “The Music of John Williams and Hollywood’s Great Composers” at Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco. The concert was held in the church’s worship room at 6:30pm. This was a great place for the DSO to perform because the audience and the orchestra were very close and, in a way, felt more personal. The show included fourteen pieces: “Overture to Captain Blood by Korngold, ‘Tara’ – A Short Poem for Orchestra from Gone with the Wind by Steiner, arr.…

The concert was held at the Serentean Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. At the concert, I was an amateur, listener to this type of music. I had never witnessed a live performance of this musical style before. I would consider myself to be a passive listener.…

Hiroyuki Minamino chose a combination of descriptive and narrative writing when writing his article Village Noise and Bruegel’s Parables. Minamino utilizes a descriptive technique in order to set the scene of the article, giving almost two pages of description in order to set the scene and mood. Also, Minamino’s use of artwork based on Bruegel’s paintings provides further description of the village scene. Minamino’s descriptive style plays well into his/her use of a narrative style. Using the description previously set, Minamino uses said description to weave a story in which a group of traveling musicians comes to a village and provides their services, for a time.…

Music is the universal language, and my duty as a devoted violinist is to convey my message of passion through every bow stroke. Whenever I participate in an ensemble, whether it be the SCHS Chamber Orchestra or YOPW’s Youth Symphony Orchestra, I enter into a haven in which the excess worries of everyday life wither away, and all that stands is the music before me. With the chance to exhibit and further develop my leadership skills as section leader and assistant concert mistress, I set the example for my fellow musicians by expressing true musicianship to fulfill my duty to the ensemble and execute a successful performance. Life is an orchestrated ensemble composed of varying styles and ever-changing tempos, and I believe that my ability…

The Concert started at 7:30pm and it was free for everyone.this was my first concert in a long time, since middle school. During the final week of classes at Truman, I had the pleasure of hearing the school’s jazz bands in concert. During the concert, the Jazz Lab band and the Jazz Ensemble, both directed by Tim AuBuchon, played several jazz standards and modern favorites. The Jazz Lab band started out the night with five big band pieces. The instrumentation of the Jazz Lab band was standard for a big band; it included about four of each horn (saxophone, trumpet, and trombone), an upright bass, a piano, and a drumset.…

For most, it could be a god given talent like playing a sport or a desire to create something out of junk, but for the musicians, it’s their literature and music. A vast majority of the living society want to perish because they see their family members or their dearest friends dying off. Overcoming the jarring reality of the post-pandemic world, the Traveling Symphony plays their hearts out creating music and allowing themselves to take breaks from the harsh reality that surrounds them. With great emotion, Miranda states, “’I’d prefer not to think that I’m following a script…’” (Mandel 106).…

"Good better best, never let it rest, 'till your good is better and your better is best." These simple words were spoken to me by my high school band director Cheldon Williams on the first day of my high school experience. This, followed by my experience of marching band and my eventual learning of piano sparked a period of introspective thought, and mental growth, that transcended to where I am today. Never in my life did I think my hard work and dedication inspired by Mr. Williams words would land me at Interlochen Center for the Performing Arts Boarding School. These words became a core part of what I am, and from freshman year on would encourage me to never set a limit on my potential, and my overall worth.…

I was raised on the border between three small towns just south of San Antonio. In my early childhood, I was convinced that my life would mirror that of my parents: graduation, marriage, and children. That sounded like a fine idea to me. Though as I grew bigger, so did my ambitions. Stuck in a world where the arts was represented mostly by a tiny high school marching band, I found a love for music and theatre.…

It was held at the Redpath Hall, a building located on McTavish street. The Redpath Hall was first dedicated for a library building, but is now taken charge by the Schulich School of Music. The Hall is very charming with its high selling that contains thick dark brown carved wodden beams that covers the intire ceiling and gives warmth to the room.…

New York Philharmonic is one of my favorite places to listen to the western classical music. I always have a great positive sense after a concert. To be honest with you, the idea of attending live events is really good and useful for every student. The goal of our educational system is to make people study not only their major material, but also be well rounded and can have a conversation on different topics in other fields of studies. Live musical assignment helps the students improve their knowledge by first learning the theory in the classroom and let use critical thinking ability later during the live musical…
