Concert Report Two

The concert performance given live that I have attended on Thursday April 20th, 2017 was an organ licentiate recital by Ian Guenette. It was held at the Redpath Hall, a building located on McTavish street. The Redpath Hall was first dedicated for a library building, but is now taken charge by the Schulich School of Music. The Hall is very charming with its high selling that contains thick dark brown carved wodden beams that covers the intire ceiling and gives warmth to the room. The walls are all painted a light cream color that gives plenty of light to the room. Moreover, the walls contrast with the dark beams which shows a contemporary design to the room. Around three hundred bright red chairs were places facing the stage

Caprice sur les grands jeux composed by Louis-Nicholas Clerambault. I really enjoyed this performance because of the powerful intensity of the notes. The dynamics would change frequently from solft to loud music. Since it was a Recital, meaning a solo concert with or without an accompaniment, but in this case Guenette was playing the organ, I cannot comment if he was playing in tune or not since he was to only performer on stage and I was not familiar with the piece therefore, I would not have known if he was playing in tune. Moreover, since it was a solo performance, there was no communication among performers. Even though I could not see the performer because he was hide behind the organ, I could feel that I was putting a lot of energy in this piece to make it dramtic. Just by the way he would hit the peddles it resound in the Hall.
The musical composition I liked the least was Prélude et fugue en mi mineur composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. The style period of this composer was the Baroque period. I disliked this composition since I did not feel that the flow of music was very good. The music was unstable since the pattern of the harmony would constantly change (Talking About Music). Moreover, I found this composition was too dense, since there were many things going on simultaneously, such as the timber would often change from different tone

His concert pieces have been played around the world by many musicians from amateur to professional performers. The piece that I choice was Susato: Three Dances. Three Dance is a medieval Renaissance dance song. I chose this piece because, unlike the others one this piece was not an a cappella. This song is actually the opposite and has no one singing in it. When I listen to it does not make me want to dance, but it does make me tap my foot.…

Upon attending the International Chamber Music Festival Concert, a certain ecstatic vibe could be felt as the performers walked on stage with their musical instruments. The virtuoso’s performed in pieces that contained trios, duets, and quintets; showing the concentration they required when listening to each other. When working on Chamber Music, much of the melody jumps around from instrument to instrument, show casing various solos and much of the instruments having to coincide with each other to carefully listen for the melody. The first performance, was from Mosaics, by Eric Ewazen, only introducing the first movement: I. Barcarolle. The performers Dr. Susan Berdahl (flute), Dr. Xiaohu Zhou (bassoon), and Dr. James Moyer (marimba), all played outstandingly and show cased exactly how Chamber Music is meant to be played.…

The piece that I have chosen to do research on for this project is “Sonatine, No. 2, "Mouvement de Menuet"” by Maurice Ravel. Firstly, Maurice Ravel was born on 1875 and passed away on 1937. He was a French composer, pianist and conductor of classical music whose most well-known works are Bolero and Daphnis et Chloé. Shortly after his birth, his family moved away to Paris, where he received his first piano lessons in 1882. Maurice Ravel faced many failures in his music career before being regarded as one of the greatest living composers in France.…

At the concert, I was a perspective listener. The perspective listener is a combination of all of the listener types. A perspective listener enjoys the sound of the music but is also critically aware of how it makes them feel and why and it also makes associations with the music whether it being from a feeling or a memory. Going to the concert I was listening with great concentration, trying to hear every aspect of the piece.…

During my ongoing business conference to Colorado to learn about future career opportunities for my dual degrees in Communication design and Computer Science, I got to attend an orchestra concert presented by the Hapless Heroes who were conducted by Leslie Stewart. The show was musical theatre where they had a live orchestra playing in front of the stage while the actors explained the Greek tale of Orpheus and Eurydice. I attended this amazing show on the 4th of December. I love learning about Greek Mythology so I was already enthusiastic about attending this show.…

The melody of this song was very slow and very relaxing to listen to. This piece was homophonic because the choir was accompanied by the violin. The violin also played beautiful four minute cadenza throughout this piece too. However, my least favorite piece was “Into the West” because the pipe organ accompanied the choir in this song which…
