I do wish to remind you that this has been tailored to suit our country, and it would be inadvisable to attempt this exact plan elsewhere. Therefore, do not come to me with proposals of restrictions on particular gun models, or on specific attachments; of stringent background checks; of scrupulous safety features; lastly, of more in-depth education on guns and gun safety.
I say again, do not come to me with such ideas until you are certain they would be superior to my own. I could not stand idly by while such atrocities were committed in my fair country and so devised this plan in hopes of resolving the problem.
I am not so arrogant as to accept only my own solution and narrow-mindedly reject the offers of intelligent men that are equally effective. But, until such offers are made, I wish you do keep this in mind: first, an average of 25 Americans are murdered by firearms every day. Second, there is a ratio of 88 guns to every 100 Americans; there is no possible way to keep those firearms out of the hands of criminals and the mentally disturbed. I ask that those who disagree with my humble plan to put forth their own that will accomplish the same
