Where do shootings take place? The data on this is jumbled. It varies so much city to city that the data is very unreliable. Sometimes the statistics don’t add up and discretion has to be used. However a reliable statistic, “nearly one-third of homicides occur happen during a family argument” (Roth, Jeffrey).Which leads to the belief that at least one-third of gun homicides occur in the home. With the knowledge of a gun in the home and knowing it should never be fired at someone unless you are threatened, chances of gun violence in home situations would plunge. All of these impede with the daily process and trying to live a normal healthy life. Being a victim of gun violence can heighten the effects of each of those symptoms. Most commonly known for being victims of gun violence, soldiers in battle often suffer from a gunshot. American soldiers often suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, because of all the horrible conditions they have to go through while in the battle field. PTSD is a condition in which traumatic events get replayed continuously in the victim’s head. They have some very similar symptoms as stated earlier, but can be diagnosed as a chronic illness that needs to be treated professionally. Gun violence has proven to impede in everyday life. 289 people get shot every day in America. That is 289 people that have potential of becoming less functioning people of society every day. That is 289 people that could need hospital care and psychiatric help. That is 289 people that have suffered from an injury that most likely would have prevented if people were smarter with guns.
