When signing up for classes at the end of my sophomore year, I was hesitant towards joining college prep writing. I did not think I needed to improve as a writer, I thought everything I wrote was great. As the semester went on and we learned the various parts of writing, I realized that there was a lot of room for improvement. This class has helped me improve my writing in more ways than I thought were possible. At the beginning of this school year, my approach to writing was, in a sense, incorrect, but I thought that the way I wrote my papers was completely fine. The approach I took on writing greatly changed as the semester went on, and I can see the improvement that simple change has done. Before I took this class, I always sat down and wrote my paper without any thought of what I was going to say. Throughout this semester, I have realized that it is much easier to write a paper if you have an outline of what you are going to write about. I never understood the effect that creating an outline would have on my writing. Not only has it made writing about a certain topic easier, but it also has made my writing flow better. I create an outline or a general idea of what I am going to write about before I start writing a paper. I did not realize it at the time, but this simple change would be the first step of improvement towards me becoming a better writer.
