During my time at high school, peer edits were not utilized as often. However in this class, it was important to get a second and third opinion. Prior I had little experience with formulating research type papers. I was able to learn about credible sources and I was able to learn how to use the library’s online database which was supportive for my papers. Even the books proved to be valuable resources, especially the Norton Field Guide. This particular book taught me how to properly analyze a text and it provided a series of steps that makes understanding a passage much simpler. In fact, I even wrote out the steps in a summarizing format for future reference, and I’m certain I will make use of them.
Before this class, there are some writing elements that I had not considered using before. One of them being the audience. I never reflected upon the audience’s perspective. This helped me realize that for some instances, I do not give enough detail or I am too broad. Making a clear argument is important to an individual’s paper, and I learned that this can be done with checking to make sure the evidence as well as my explanation makes sense.
