First you need to be aware that children are curious. Children want to know what they see and why. For example a child may ask a question such as why is Josh always in a wheel chair, and why Mrs. Day always by him? To make sure you are fostering an inclusive classroom you need to be prepared to answer questions that may come. An example of a way you could respond to the child that is asking about Josh is by saying Josh is in a wheel chair because he has trouble walking Mrs. Day is by Josh so she can help him get around so he can participate in fun activities with his friends!

For example, if you read a book that has a child in it who is in a wheelchair you may have an activity afterwards that involves letting all children experience sitting in a wheelchair.
