Assignment #2
Exploring Personal Biases
Often times we have particular biases that interfere with our ability to accept, include or tolerate those whom we perceive to be different from ourselves. These differences can include religion, culture, race, sexual orientation, gender, physical limitations, etc. Biases and intolerance interfere with interpersonal communication and lead to exclusion. As early childhood educators, it is important to recognize any biases that you hold and to actively seek to overcome these biases and to demonstrate an attitude of acceptance and tolerance.
Recall a time when you encountered someone whose beliefs, attitudes, abilities, gender, race, sexual orientation or values appeared to differ from yours. Please make reference to your notes and textbook when responding to the below questions, particularly questions 2, 3 and 4. Q.1 how did you perceive this person on first meeting him or her? Explain.
