The role of a nurse in providing professional, compassionate care. Introduction This assignment will discuss the role of the nurse in providing care in relation to the 6C’s of nursing practice which include care, compassion, competence, communication, courage and commitment. (NHS England, 2012). These principles form the benchmark of the NHS culture of compassionate care and underpins everything it does.…
Indigenous veterans essay Jacob Sharp Mi'kmaq class Mrs. Ridler Indigenous veterans were and are very important to the war effort and have contributed a lot in each war. They partook in wars ranging from “Pequot war in 1637 to the Korean war in 1950”(Wars of the indigenous peoples of North America. 2018). Their most helpful contributions were in the war of 1812 and World War one and two which helped shape the world we live in today, this was very helpful because it added much needed bodies to the war effort. Without the contributions and help of indigenous soldiers and other military divisions the wars would have been harder and canada would have lost some crucial battles.…
Many of Jean Watson’s Caritas should have been applied by the medical staff throughout the entirety of the patients battle with cancer. A patient being diagnosed with stage IV cancer can be debilitating however as displayed in the movie, Wit, the treatments can take away so much of the patient’s dignity, sense of self and inflict a great deal of pain and discomfort. From the beginning of the movie, the patient’s well-being was sacrificed by the physicians from the time of diagnoses of the patient’s cancer through treatments. It was only the nurse that showed the patient basic human decency and provided not only physical care but emotional care to the patient when it was needed the most. Two caritas that stand out for the situations…
A veteran to me is a patriotic, unselfish, brave, and courageous person, who would sacrifice time from their families to serve and protect our nation. As Jeff Miller once said, “The willingness of America’s Veterans to sacrifice for our country has earned them our lasting gratitude.” Veterans from every country have served throughout many wars. They have put their blood, sweat, and effort into doing the right and beneficial thing for their nation. Being a veteran means not only to serve in the military, but it means to have the selflessness and courage to go off to war to ensure the freedom of the nation.…
Concepts of Interprofessional Collaboration The concepts of interprofessional collaboration were made to help us all work together through associations to solve compound health complications. Significant ideas with the relationships, that nurses use every day, include sharing information or education, working together in partnerships, authority (who is in charge?), and being able to be accountable independently or in a group. They also utilize the diversity in the patient population and professional people that we work with. Although, there are no strong associations to how the groups work, all are different, but all have a patient focused atmosphere (D 'Amour, et al., 2005) to reduce risk factors for certain populations and to deliver services…
When it comes to the healthcare system, nursing is expected to deliver care based on scientific evidence, including a holistic approach. Therefore, nurses must accomplish a broad range of activities that encourage the promotion of not only safety but also comfort of the patients regardless of their different cultures and beliefs. For example, the interaction and integration among physicians, technicians, and nurses, including the patient have resulted in patient-centered collaborative care. This outcome seems to reinforce and widespread the role of nursing advocators built on a strong foundation of primary care along with an additional development of skills, sense of ethics, cultural and spiritual sensitivity, helping them to identify the…
Weekly Self S.O.A.P - A. S- Discuss your SUBJECTIVE feelings for this week. This week I was assigned to be in the ICU. To say that I expected to be busy is an understatement. I knew to expect critically ill patients and to see them at their worse with different types of lines and tubes coming out of their bodies. The fragile state in which these patients find themselves was hard for me to see, it was actually a bit overwhelming the first day.…
As the patient entered the surgery room the anesthesiologist explained that she would be receiving general anesthesia. General anesthesia is known to be the most controllable method. Few side effects are present with this anesthesia. This type of anesthesia is a reversible loss of consciousness. Depression of the central nervous system takes place which helps with pain relief as well.…
Be Proud to be an American Veteran’s Day comes every year, yet some people still do not fully understand what exactly our veterans have done for us. The veterans of the United States have to push themselves to their limits, they have to witness terrible things, and some have to live with the thought that they hurt somebody. When you list all of the things these people have done for our country, you start to gain a much higher respect towards them. First of all, veterans have to face the physical challenge.…
My nursing philosophy is to do no harm when treating patients. It is my job to provide the best care possible; beginning with my first encounter with a patient. I treat every patient in the same manner and make sure their needs and concerns are always being heard and not to dismiss them. The patient is in a new place and for some it is scary to be vulnerable and put trust in someone else. I am there to put them at ease, hold their hand and provide comfort…
The Benedictine Values in an Educational Environment are centered around core values similar to those found in the Code of Ethics for Nursing and Scope and Standards of Practice. I believe the most relevant parts include seeking the common good for the community and having respect for all persons no matter what race or ethnicity they may be. This includes creating fair and just medical treatment for all would seek it. A second relevant value in common is to listen with the ear of your heart. This is especially necessary for a nursing career because it is our responsibility to be both a caregiver and someone the patient feels comfortable confiding in.…
Values are principles which can vary person to person, they are areas of life which are held with high regard, importance and worth. Areas such as dignity, privacy, respect, honesty and trust are just a few values which are vital in the healthcare setting. Within all healthcare settings there are codes of practice which assist health care professionals to provided and maintain adequate and effective levels of care. These codes provide guidance in relation to the values of professional conduct, ethics and performance, amongst many other areas. By adhering to the codes of practise it means that values are never compromised and therefore levels of care never waiver.…
All fourteen points ensure complete and holistic care of the patient. There is an exchange that takes place between those who provide care and those cared for that goes beyond the empirical reality of the moment and incorporates the spiritual. The 'art' of providing care includes an aspect of caring that has metaphysical origins and connotations. It concerns all aspects of the human experience, physical, psychological, spiritual and social. The Gestalt approach to nursing and the inclusion of caring as a primary requisite is the heart of the concept of interactive theory as it applies to nursing and as presented by Ms. Henderson.…
As nurses, we sometimes get ourselves in situations whether or not to respect the client’s wishes when they are against the medical orders for care. In Burkhardt and Nathaniel (2014), ethical dilemmas are when there are conflicting morals happening with a patient. To help guide the nurses, ethical dilemmas require them to think critically about situations and figure out the appropriate decision to create the best outcome for their patient and patient’s family. According to Murray (2010), nurses require moral courage, which requires to them to stand up for what they believe in when it comes to providing the safest and ethically care for a patient. No matter how a situation conflicts with an ethical aspect, being able to speak up for the patient and knowing their best interest makes for better nurses.…
This way of thinking is based on an individual as a good person or a role with specific duties (Edge and Groves, 2007). In other words, each profession in healthcare has a set of virtues that the professional can adopt in practice (Edge and Groves, 2007). In the movie, this theory is displayed when the doctors are presented. The doctors actively display their virtues by helping student doctors learn about the disease, being honest with the parents about the situation, and being neutral when the parents start to fight back. Another secondary character, Lorenzo’s friend from Africa, shows Virtue.…
