Essay On Clinical Observation

I have observed in two clinical settings, a private practice and the Physician's Office Center. Of the two, I prefer the medical setting because they see a wider range of clients with a variety of types, degrees, and progressions of hearing loss with a multitude of etyologies. In comparison, the private practice setting has a distinctive group of clientel, but they get to follow up and have a continuing relationship with their clients.

At these sites, I observed hearing aid checks, maintainence, and replacements, as well as, hearing evaluations. I enjoyed seeing the interactions between the clinicians and clients, and how much care is put into explaining the test procedures and reassuring the client. I also think that the diagnostic audiometers are really cool; I am interested in learning how to opperate one.

They are experienced and have the knowledge of how to adjust to each client to obtain accurate and sufficient information to make the most out of their time with them. They are observant, friendly, and patient; they are well-spoken and efficient since they are limited by the attention span of their clients. As clinicians, they are detailed and thorough, while remaining clear and easy to understand. I find these attributes are crucial in the field of Audiology.
