The purpose of this advertisement is to essentially sell the products being displayed. The video starts with actor Peter Dinklage rapping to“Look at Me Now” by Chris Brown ft. Busta Rhymes while walking through a room that is engulfed in flames. After this display, PepsiCo decides to have actor Morgan Freeman rap to “Get Ur Freak On” by Missy Elliot while walking through a room that is covered in ice. At the end of both features, the two come together in a face off creating a “fire and ice” type of rivalry. Specifically, at the start of the ad, the face of Peter Dinklage is blacked out and a spotlight is deliberately aimed at the bag of Doritos the actor is holding. This is an effective use of ethos because once the audience member spots the bag, they will recognize the brand. Not only does the brand recognition play into the ads sense of ethos, but so does Peter Dinklage himself. Dinklage is a well known actor and his appearance in this ad may further persuade the audience that they should buy Doritos. Throughout this advertisement, each celebrity feature is intertwined and this significantly helps the appearance and flow of the video. As previously stated, the video starts with actor Peter Dinklage rapping to“Look at Me Now” by Chris Brown ft. Busta Rhymes. Not only does PepsiCo use Dinklage, and “Look at Me Now”, but they also have actor Morgan Freeman in the advertisement. During Morgan Freeman’s feature, he is representing Mountain Dew and rapping to “Get Ur Freak On” by Missy Elliot. The artists also make an appearance with the actor rapping their songs. These are examples of how the company appeals to ethos because they incorporate a well known actors, and well known song to further coax the audience into thinking about the product being sold. Pathos is mostly seen through humor, but can also be see in the visual aspect of things. Busta Rhymes and Missy Elliot are both featured in this video. Rhymes represents the Doritos portion and, Elliot represents the Mountain Dew portion. When Peter Dinklage is rapping, he is accompanied by Busta Rhymes hanging in a portrait on the wall. This is an example of pathos because it is humorous how Rhymes over exaggerates the parts in which he sings and the fact that he his just a singing “painting” is hilarious. When it comes to the visual aspect of things, Rhymes is also wearing a purple military jacket, matching the color of the Doritos Blaze bag. As for the Mountain Dew portion of this video, a similar scene is presented. Elliot is presented as a statue wearing an ice crown, blue lipstick, blue eyeshadow, and blue nails, this color is a visual representation of the “Ice” in Mountain Dew Ice. Some other ways color represents the drink in this scene, is a bowl of lemons and limes, green and yellow chairs, two statues wearing green sashes and also the handkerchief Morgan Freeman is wearing is green. These colors all represent the flavor of the drink which is lemon-lime. Humor is also used by having Morgan Freeman lyp sync “Get Ur Freak On”. Freeman has an extremely low voice and having him lyp sync a high pitched song out of his range is humorous. If each celebrity in the video were to just have no

Firstly, the ad creates a very somber mood due to covering a sensitive subject, the natural disasters of the past year. The use of the song “Stand By Me” is perhaps the most notable, as it is a slower and more soulful then the original song by Ben King, and that is surely not by accident. The ad also conveys a sense of seriousness in terms of the situation. This ad lacks logos because it provides no factual evidence behind the ads main claim; however, the rhetorical appeal that is used the most is pathos, the appeal to emotion. The music in the background is a key factor in provoking emotion from the audience, it makes them stop whatever they were doing and look up at the TV. At the start of the ad, the first sound that is heard is birds chirping however soon after, as the animal factories are being built, the music holds a very depressing and sorrowful tone. This sudden change of sound already has grasped the audience's attention without even seeing the ad yet, simply by listening to the sounds. Next the ad shows the building of the animal factories and slowly it escalates from a small house for one pig to a city of factories and roads that overtake the concept of nature.…
