They say everything in life is either a lesson or a blessing. I take this experience as both. A blessing because in such a small amount of time its already opened so many doors for me. A lesson because of everything that it has taught me. I have learned so much and so many important things at this office that has better prepared me to be a professional and be an amazing competitor in the workforce. This internship has taught me the importance of timeliness. Timeliness has never been an issue for me but in a workplace where everyone must work together, it has never been more critical. One late employee can throw off the whole schedule if you allow it to. Which brings me to teamwork. This is an integral part in the dental field, especially

I, of course, had to manage them with precise dates and times in order to make sure that tasks were being completed in a timely manner. I would set aside an hour for each internship, and get my work done in that set hour. I pushed myself to complete most, if not all, of the work assigned to me. If anything else wasn't completed, I was set aside another half hour the following day to finish it up. I’m going to treat this internship just as I did with the two previous.…

In this article Katherine DeCelles makes it clear that even if a company is pro-diversity that it is hard to be certain that culture is understood or practiced by everyone, in particular, those that are screening resumes. By not properly training those that will be screening resumes to be pro-diversity the company will be at a greater risk for liability of claims on racial discrimination. Katherine makes this connection as throughout her research many recruiters made hiring decisions subconsciously or purposely based on race. Now, these hiring decisions weren’t necessarily made based on color as when screening resumes the recruiters weren’t looking at faces, but they were able to look at names. Katherine found through her studies that African Americans and Asian who masked their race on resumes received more job interviews.…

Chapter 10 provides the understanding of prejudice, both intentional and unintentional. People attempt at balancing their ethnic identity, which is the racial group to which they identify themselves, and acculturation, where minorities attempt at joining the mainstream majority. A common occurrence among cultures is the expression of ethnocentrism, a feeling of superiority in a group over any other collaboration. Deciding that a group is entirely inferior can lead to prejudice against said group, which unreasonably promotes a dislike for that category of people. Individuals become blind to the cultural rules that produce the behavior of their enemy, such as when Iranian natives commonly use “yes” to mean “yes” or “no”, as westerners believe…

Diversity is not just age, gender, race. it is much more complicated that we can imagine. In my opinion diversity is about our connectedness and our interactions where the lines cross. Diversity is a connection between our professional life and personal life and the framework for interrelationships between people. In the workplace we face employees with different cultural backgrounds, perceptions ,capabilities and disabilities that they bring to their workplace.…

In the workplace, the role of gender, race and ethnicity can influence the effectiveness of the company's performance. Diversity in an organization involves the development of a work culture where people of different races, genders and nationalities can blend to achieve the same goals. By studying various groups, we can determine the effects of diversity and what particular gender dominates in the workplace. In our society, there are occupations that economists call “pink collared jobs.”…

We have three team leads that had the pleasure of helping out, they really love my team effort since I have been employed with Methodist the longest. Work in a group is not the easiest thing to do but it takes having a great positive attitude towards what you are trying to achieve in life to not let it affect your job. The number one goal I set for the internship experience was graduating this December with my BS in Human Resource Development. Graduating is very imperative to my life achievements because earning my degree not only increases my earning potential, but I also gain knowledge, expertise, and my ability to grow mentally and physically as a women.…

Hiring for diversity is an important issue and sometimes it is necessary in public agencies, and also the fire service for many reasons. One reason would be that in these communities there are cultural barriers, which mean that potentially there also are language barriers. This can cause lack of communication between the ones that are providing the help and those that need it and can be extremely frustrating for the providers. Hiring people that are bi-lingual is a huge bonus for public agencies. In addition, having diversity can ensure that people in the communities feel that their race, religion, culture, gender etc. are being respected and that are also well represented.…

Living life with a job based on race or ethnicity can affect people's perspective of the United States being a ¨free country.¨ A quota in the civil servant occupations can create a peace within other races or ethnicities. Diversity is good for the community and workplace as it helps define the culture. People are all equal when it comes to the hiring process for certain jobs. Today, if someone were to get a job, the odds of being qualified for the job are low because of their race or ethnicity, People get the wrong idea of certain races because of stereotypes from the past that continue into the present.…

During my internship experience, I learned a lot of things that I thought I knew but are misconstrued on. With that being said, I know everything must be done in decent order or this will cause chaos and lead to confusion. I also learned everything takes patience and is very time- consuming. I became frustrated, so many times and just wanted to give up, but I had to remind myself that hard times are going to come and everything is going to work out. Many times I sat on my bed crying because it seems like everything piled on me at one time.…

DeVany identified the fifteen roles that leaders play in order to manage performance and accountability of a team and its members. However, based on experience, one can believe that when working in any specific team environment, the manager cannot conceivably play all these roles at an effective level. Instead, if a team is well organized, the members of the team are also tasked with taking on some of these roles and responsibilities. The first part of managing a team with diverse personalities is knowing which personalities complement each other and the team.…

The location I live in is an area that lacks diversity. Throughout my schooling I have learned a great deal about learning with different cultures and remaining open and trying not to jump to conclusions that could potentially offend someone. However, we live somewhere where the culture is not rich. Most of the experience I have got working with other cultures has all came from professors and reading about other cultures. My location is one where there are many low-income individuals, and many are struggling with various drug abuse issues.…

I have been blessed with many different opportunities in my life to experience diversity through my school, church, and work. Being a part of a church has taught me to always have open arms to anyone that may be different than myself, with that being said my church has introduced me to many different people from all different walks of life. My church also has a large congregation of the Asian culture. Through the many social events of my church I have learned a lot about the Asian culture between their family values, foods, clothing, and gender relations. Working hand and hand with them to serve others has taught me about the differences between our ways of life, but most of all has shown me the similarities between us.…

Introduction When employees seek employment, they do so with the intent of performing well at their jobs, getting paid appropriately for their performance, and with the understanding that if they have a need that arises, their employer will try to accommodate them as best possible, if they have the means to do so. With a diverse workforce, religion and disability are two categories that will always vary among employees and how the company meets those needs. Companies are very diverse and with diversity come differences that everyone within the company must be aware of in order to be professional and respectful to everyone as not to offend anyone. Employers have to be mindful of the different religions and disabilities within their company…

There has been situations in my life that have made me wonder if I actually made the correct choice. To my personal belief I think I have lived a pretty good life and always try to do the right thing even though my actions might hurt others. Ethical dilemmas are part of human nature and how we react in a certain situation in which there is a choice to be made between two options, neither of which resolves the situation in a correct fashion. These choices assume that the person choosing what decision to make will abide by societal norms such as codes of laws or religious coaching, in order to make the choice even ethically impossible.…
