Conflict Scenario Paper

Conflict is one of the inevitable outcomes involved when people communicate and work together. Our cultures, backgrounds, education as well as many other factors may influence our ability to communicate effectively. Yet even with effective communication skills, conflict can arise and, if not handled appropriately, may result in damaged relationships and detrimental outcomes in any aspect of our lives, be it work, school, relationships or other. This paper will describe and analyze a short video of a conflict scenario, describe the different factors and variables contribute to the conflict, and discuss possible strategies for avoiding conflict in the future.

Their interdependence, or what is needed to ensure the welfare and satisfaction of the individuals as well as the hospital as a whole, is to ensure every department is on the same page with the implementation of this new system so that hospital operations and patient safety are not compromised (Adler, Rosenfeld, & Proctor II, 2013). The struggle is presented when Robin does not have the same desire for collaboration between the departments and is conflicted by his own personal time commitments while Kathleen and Jane think it is important for everyone to be involved with a plan because this will impact not only their individual departments, but also the entire hospital. Conflict exists when all those involved are aware that there is a disagreement according to Adler, Rosenfeld and Proctor II (2013) and this struggle can be expressed both verbally and non-verbally. Jane makes the comment of, “I think our department is feeling a little overwhelmed,” and Kathleen responds with, “It is incredible that they would chose to introduce this at the same time as we are trying to convert to CPOE so that not only are we changing the ordering system but we are changing the actual technology behind that which orders, and so that is why I think it’s so key that each of our departments uses a standard way of communicating what we need to have done (Nursing & Healthcare Leadership, 2015).” Although the purpose of the meeting is to find a way to address and successfully implement this new IT process, as the group continues their interaction, the perception is that there are some incompatible goals between the three group members as to how to address these scare
