College admissions are pretty simple. They check your GPA and ACT/SAT test scores and see if you match their expectations. If you do, they will take you. If you don’t, they will reject you. What about if you are stuck in the middle? What if you don’t quite meet their expectations, but you don’t really fall below them? What’s supposed to be a tie breaker or the cherry on top of the cake is now a very controversial topic. Being a legacy student can have a significant impact in the admission process, if you are one. It also gives you a huge advantage over non-legacy students. Being a legacy student has the potential of getting you admitted into the college that you want, even if you don’t meet all the requirements. UW should take legacy into consideration because legacy installs a sense of tradition and overall, research shows that is more beneficial for colleges to admit legacy students because they will provide more monetary support and have a greater sense of appreciation for the university. With research proving that legacy students are loyal to that college or university, the college or university will greatly benefit as those legacy students tend to get high paying jobs or have high status positions after graduation, thus improving the reputation of the college or university.
