Being set apart is about the journey along with the end success. I have set myself apart as a student at Texas Tech due to my leadership, ability to make outside commitments while supporting my course load, and my hard work and ability to overcome adversity.
For the duration of high school, I was a leader for my younger peers by volunteering over 400 hours with Shallowater’s Middle School One Act Play program. I held the position of High School Assistant Director for two years, and the opportunity to influence young students was extraordinary. I also had the opportunity to participate in organizations that developed my leadership skills, for example, New Century Leadership with the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce, and Camp L.E.A.D. with Texas Tech University. I aspire to continue using the skills I acquired through my experience in leadership programs, and as a mentor to continue growing into a successful leader.
Along with my commitment to Texas Tech as a student, I also work at United Market Street. This humble employment has given me the chance to have experiences and excel outside of school in a real world situation. Nothing has ever been handed to me and I have been required to work for what I have accomplished. I have always been inclined toward academic success, but it is my dedication to academics that has given me the ability to maintain success. During my first semester as a Texas Tech student, I discovered to maintain academic success one must often sacrifice sleep, time with friends, and hobbies. I set a goal at the beginning of the semester to maintain a 4.0 and I adapted my schedule to accommodate time and worked extremely hard to accomplish that
