2015 was a time filled with adventure and grandeur. I can still vividly remember the frigid, icy night of twenty degrees Fahrenheit when my family and I saw The Cold Hard Cash Show in concert. This was where I was introduced to Johnny Cash’s music by Merle Travis Peterson. I received nearly an overdose of unique and remarkable music that influenced many other genres. Even with Johnny Cash’s death, his music has continued to inspire and ignite generations. The amazing concert was at the Oriental Theater in Denver, Colorado.

While the theater is old, it still attracts families, friends and couples. The theater reopened after a facelift from new ownership 6 years ago, but the history still shines throughout the building. The new owners revitalized the architecture and exterior decorations to display the facelift perfectly, however they kept the big Oriental Theater sign. Combined with the neighboring buildings, you can almost feel the uniqueness of the theater. Even then, as the people awaited energetically, on the weathered sidewalk in the moonlit night the collective excitement is unreal. The theater has stood for generations and hosted countless musicals, films, comedy shows, concerts, and even plays. The red bricks of the theater vibrate from the music emanating from the interior. It truly is a theater that has stood test time. The theater will test the patience of the group of friends, couples, and families as they inch closer to the double-doored entrance. The doorman of the theater examines each patron 's ticket with intricate precision. As the line moves, the people shuffle forward and grow more restless as they approach the doorman for their unforgettable night. The doors open and close as the bouncer allows the correct ticket holders in. When the door opens, a burst of laughter and an aura of euphoria emits from the theater. As the patrons enter, the music from a DJ emits from the closed doors of the theater into the relatively small lobby and hallway that separates the exit and entrance door. Slowly, but surely, the waiters are changing into an audience. The DJ isn 't the only one affecting the mood; the walls throughout the lobby are filled

The stairs squeak with every step. Another reminder that the theater has seen many visitors and will continue to get them. Upon reaching the top of the stairs, you see a beautiful interior decoration of a asian city and a styled booth on each side of the stage. To the right of the balcony entrance, there are four tightly packed rows of 30 well-worn red theatre seats that have been tested thoroughly through the years. The chairs offer a brief resting spot for tired concert-goers. Some of the audience have kindly accepted and have begun to rest for the grand night that awaits. Right below the balcony on the ground floor, much more of the audience is settled within the twenty rows of old well-worn theatre seats on each side with a walkway in the middle. Each row has twenty seats each. Even the walkway is angled in a twenty degree manner and almost feels like you are descending into a pit of excitement and anticipation. The pit of excitement and anticipation ascends into a floor that is right next to the stage that is used for dancing and

The event that I decided to go was BYU Baroque Ensemble, a production made by BYU students, taking place at Madsen Recital Hall Harris Fine Arts Center on November 3. The idea of making a baroque orchestra is where musician get together to make a perfect composition of music, the baroque orchestra is made up mostly of stringed instruments, when you listen you feel something different that makes you see it from another perspective, you just can’t stop listening and focus on every note that the musicians are playing. The type of instruments that were utilized in conjunction were the basso continuo, played by a viol, cello or bassoon. Other parts were added between the melody and the bass by a keyboard instrument, usually a harpsichord or organ and the development of tonal harmony, in which the melodic voices movement remains under the functional chord progression.…

As the house lights are gradually lowered in the Glenelg Country School auditorium, the audience’s effervescent chattering falls to a hush and all that can be heard is one voice somewhere in the theatre, enchanting the audience. The spectators listen intently as the voice travels throughout the theatre, until suddenly, a single spotlight illuminates a middle-aged man sitting on a worn armchair playing the soundtrack of his favorite musical on his antique turntable. So begins Gelnelg Country School’s performance of “The Drowsy Chaperone”. Written by Bob Martin and Don McKeller and music by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison, the musical follows the story of an antisocial man as he provides hilarious commentary on his favorite musical, “The Drowsy Chaperone” while listening to its soundtrack on a record player in his quaint apartment. As the music plays, the show comes to life and emphasizes its nonsensical elements to satirize popular musical theatre.…

On Friday, April 13th at 8 pm, I went to go see a production of Heathers. This production was put on by the Berklee musical theater club and took place at the Boston Center for the Arts' Plaza Theater located at 539 Tremont Street in Boston. The theater itself was a black box, which I found interesting because I have never seen a show, especially a large well known show, be put on in such a small space. The stage itself was in the middle of the room and had no curtains. The pit of musicians from the Boston Conservatory were set up behind the simple and short stage.…

As she takes in her surroundings, Stacy observes the hustle and bustle of crew and cast members. Many are in a frantic preparation mode, swiftly getting into costumes, caking on makeup, organizing props, and cramming lines for the umpteenth time. Although she knows she shouldn’t, Stacy takes a peek at the stage and, in turn, the unsuspecting audience. The once empty five hundred seats are now quickly becoming occupied by eager spectators awaiting the clock to display 7:30.…

The first Broadway musical I enjoyed was Disney's Beauty and the Beast. I was about thirteen years old. It was more elaborate than the small performances at Disney World. There was more music, elaborate set designs, and more seats in theater. I was very impressed by the singing and actors ability to flow through the material.…

Broadway: Cinderella During the Columbia’s weekend, I got the chance to go to the New York City with my friend. We went to the Broadway Theater to see Cinderella, a musical with music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. As we all known, Cinderella is one of the Disney princess stories from our childhood; however, the musical version of Cinderella has slightly changed from the original story. When you walked into the theater, you just feel you will ever want to go out there. The theater decorated likes a royal castle, with gorgeous long stairs, crystal lights, and fancy couches.…

Over the past term and a bit, I feel in general that I have achieved what I was aiming for in concern with creating a halloween container/basket. Starting this assessment with a lot of drawing and sketching and jumbled ideas and designs, I thought that I would be a hard task filled with challenges and difficulties. However it turned out to be the complete opposite. Choosing my final design, which has now been modified and changed, I started the real work. Even though I started this design with little knowledge on clay, I was excited and enthusiastic to learn.…

The Fall Concert took place at Chaminade Julienne Catholic High School on October 13, 2016 for the grand reopening of the auditorium that was renovated during the summer. Concert Choir, Liturgical Choir, Concert Band, Eagle Pride, Phoenix, and Vega performed on this brand new stage to celebrate this wonderful event and it would become one of the most important events in the history of CJ. Since I am a member of the Concert Choir, I was really lucky to participate in the Fall Concert and saw that first glance of the new auditorium. It is really beautiful and I believe that it really represents CJ as a whole in the Dayton area and all those who support CJ. On the night of the concert, we performed five pieces as a group including the “United…

When the word “home” is defined in a dictionary you are given definitions like “the place in which one’s domestic affections are centered” or “any place of residence or refuge” but to me home means so much more. To me, home is theatre. Those who know me well will attest that the change in me throughout this experience is drastic. Theatre transports me to places I couldn’t dream of otherwise and two years ago, I was taken to a place that would change my life forever and theatre transformed to the place I call home. Thoughts and ideas flooded my mind as I stepped into the off-green colored cafeteria.…

A rising art form in popular culture today is none other than the American musical theatre. An array of factors have emerged and collided over the past decade to bring what was once a niche staple of American culture to the forefront of the media and culture around the world. The sum of an evolving variety of music genres within the form, an increased interest and engagement by A and B list celebrities, an increasingly globalized Western culture, among other influences have allowed for the growth and current peak prosperity of the musical theatre genre across many platforms and international lines. I tapped my pencil against the wooden desk, anxiously staring down the clock. The end of the day could not come quick enough. All I wanted was for it to be 8:00 PM. Fast forward to around six hours later, I was in a large crowd of people, all of whom were way too close for comfort, and my neck was dotted with sweat. There were at least 200 people in the small area that is referred to as the ‘pit’.…
