A current debate that is occurring at the national level is whether or not abortion should be legal. One of the main arguments in regards to abortion is that abortion is murder. Some people believe that even if a baby has not yet been born and a woman has an abortion, an innocent baby has been murdered. According to the Federal Unborn Victims of Violence Act, any person who is “intentionally attempting to kill” an unborn baby is to be punished (Public Law, 2004). Other individuals use the Roe v. Wade to support their case. In 1973, Roe V. Wade came to be recognized, which allowed for all women to make their own medical decisions and to be accountable for abortions in that each woman should have the right to choose what happens to her body (Planned Parenthood, 2016). In addition, it is unclear to many individuals when life actually begins. Some women testify to having an abortion due to concerns with their personal health. However although some women may be serious when they say they are having an abortion due to personal health reasons, 92% of …show more content…
The reason being is that if abortions were to be illegal, women might find an unsafe way to abort the infant inside of her. There are about 70,000 women who die each year due to engaging in an unsafe abortion. If death does not result in the unsafe abortion many women experience serious injuries and infertility (Arons & Saperstein, 2006).
