Abortion is the termination of an unborn fetus inside a womb. This procedure should be illegal in the United States of America. The unborn of our society should be protected. The expectant mother should not have the right to terminate a life. Everyone in the United States, unborn or born, should have the ability to live. From the moment of conception, there is a life. This life should be protected by the law. “In 1973, seven justices out of nine voted to expand national abortion rights to America’s women. This shift reflected the product of a long-standing social movement and the culmination of medical and legal trends.” (Rose) This was the court case called Roe vs. Wade; it allowed abortion to become legal. It should not be looked at as disposable. This is what abortion promotes. An article written by Elizabeth Williams is titled, “So What If Abortion Ends Life?”. Just by the title of this article, I draw the conclusion that Williams does not value human life. Even though she recognizes life starts at conception, Williams still chooses to support the termination of a precious life. She states in her article that “Yet I know that throughout my own pregnancies, I never wavered for a moment in the belief that I was carrying a human life inside of me. I believe that’s what a fetus is” a human life. And that doesn’t make me one iota less solidly pro-choice.” This woman can think of her own children inside of her own womb and still think that taking away a human life is okay. This is a problem. Abortion employs that women who get pregnant can take the easy way out instead of facing their mistakes and owning up to them. Birth control pills and condoms are appropriate contraceptives not abortion. These alternate uses of contraceptives prevent pregnancy but abortion just terminates the pregnancy. This is so wrong. The top reasons for having an abortion in 2004 are as follows: too immature or too young, can’t afford the baby right now, has all the children they want or children are already grown. (Johnson) None of these top reasons are for life or death matters. They are truly out of selfishness and convenience. The reasons listed show how abortion is affecting our world’s mindset and the fact that abortion should be illegal. The 14th amendment guarantees that no state shall “deprive any person or life, liberty, or property, without due process of the law (New). Abortion violates this. When a woman takes away a life inside of her this deprives that baby’s life. Abortion not only violates the 14th amendment, it violates the word of God.
