the late February of 1924 in Kutuma, part of the Zvimba District, Southern Rhodesia. He grew up with six siblings; however, Mugabe’s two older brothers died when he was quite young. His father, Gabriel Matibili abandoned his family in 1934 in search of work leaving his wife to take care of four children. Robert Mugabe was raised through the Roman Catholic religion of which he became good acquaintances with many of the priests and studied the religion at Kutama College. He qualified to teach, but he left that opportunity to study at Fort Hare in South Africa. He graduated from Fort Hare in 1951 with multiple degrees in both science and law. Mugabe returned to teaching in Zambia and Ghana. At Apowa Secondary School in Western Ghana he met Sally Hayfron whom he married in 1961. In 1963, they had one son, Michael Nhamodzenyika Mugabe. While teaching, he unravelled a great friendship with the Prime Minister of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah at the time. Mugabe was taught under him at the Kwame Nkrumah Ideological Institute. In 1992, his first wife, Sally Hayfron, from a long-term kidney disorder. Unfortunately, their son died at the age of three from cerebral malaria in December 1966. Robert Mugabe is currently married to Grace Marufu. They have two sons, Chatunga Bellarmine Mugabe and Robert Peter Mugabe Jr., and one daughter, Bona Mugabe. In 1960, Mugabe joined the National Democratic Party (NDP) of Southern Rhodesia. The Prime Minister of the time banned the NDP in September 1961.…
