CBS executive producer Allison Grodner stated “I think a lot of the fun of our show is bringing different genders together — different opinions, different backgrounds, different people.” (Wieselman). However when it comes to taking responsibility for creating an environment that is sure to bring about conflict CBS denies any act on it. CBS after airing the episode in Season 15 that contained cast member saying many offensive remarks released a statement in which they stated that they did not condone that behavior (Harnick). But one still has to argue that the behavior is broadcasted purposefully in order to get high rating and get the audience talking about what happened. CBS President and CEO Les Moonves in an interview stated that he found some of the behavior to be absolutely appalling but said it “is reflective of how certain people feel in America” he also called the show a “social experiment” (Dehnart). It is clear that CBS purposefully uses this race driven narrative in the programming because it is compelling to the audience. It’s also important to note that Big Brother is a very interactive reality tv show in which the audience has power to vote for their favorite cast member. This not only creates a more loyal audience but an engaged audience that will continue to come back for more drama in the narrative.
