There were several elements that were discussed in the text as well as in class for productive group meetings. The group’s inter-workings depend upon how well the members accept appointed roles. During the course of Group and Organizational Communication, the importance of understanding leadership and what constitutes good leadership was imparted in our class sessions. The class examined in great detail, the nature of both positive and negative impact of conflict in group settings which can be viewed as experiences for learning. The textbook describes small group interaction as the process by which three or more members of a group exchange verbal and nonverbal messages in an attempt to influence one another. (Tubbs, 2012, p. 7) The size of the group is as important as the group’s purpose. After reading chapter one, I discovered choosing group participant numbers which range from 3 to 15 suggests the smaller the number of participants the more attainable the group’s goal (p. 7). Throughout this whole group work, I think the best approached that worked well with our group was assigning everyone their own parts of the assignment. I think this is a good approach because if someone does not get it done than we know who to blame that part on rather than everyone doing it together and you have no clue who did what.
