There were several elements that were discussed in the text as well as in class for productive group meetings. The group’s inter-workings depend upon how well the members accept appointed roles. During the course of Group and Organizational Communication, the importance of understanding leadership and what constitutes good leadership was imparted in our class sessions. The role of a follower and the necessity of followership. The class examined in great detail, the nature of both positive and negative impact of conflict in group settings which can be viewed as experiences for learning. The textbook describes small group interaction as the process by which three or more members of a group exchange verbal and nonverbal messages in an attempt to influence one another. (Tubbs, 2012, p. 7) The size of the group is as important as the group’s purpose. After reading chapter one, I discovered choosing group participant numbers which range from 3 to 15 suggests the smaller the number of participants the more attainable the group’s goal (p. 7). During our class session, we discussed how having odd numbers of members allows the group to have someone to serve as a tie-breaker when needed.…

This assignment required us to collaborate thoughts as well as opinions so that we could effectively work together in a group setting. Our group has had a rough start and a rough finish for project 1. The group consisted of eight people and one would think with eight people the work would not have been so tough. However, we did work well together when we did work, we collaborated and agreed on ideas, and we worked together to achieve some sort of product. Unfortunately along the way there were communication issues, and confusion. In the beginning, it was bright and people seemed to want to do great work for the project. That…

On Tuesday October 13, 2015 we had the chance to attend a FMNI workshop put on by Dawn Burleigh and wow what a powerful workshop. This was a very heart felt, eye opening experience for me. The first activity we did was called the “blanket activity”, which highlighted some of the challenges the First Nations, Metis, and Inuit people have faced throughout history. At the beginning, we all stood on the blankets that represented Turtle Island. As the activity progressed, we soon found our selves…

I observed: In my opinion, I observed a different pattern when we were assigned into groups to discuss the questions and when I were among the six students to do the group therapy. During both of the conversation, I observed that the groups were confused, anxious, and each one of them had a different objective to be here. I thought: I thought the possible feeling arises due to the group dynamics. I found it a little interesting how both the groups worked. In the first group, when we were…

Group Reflection Paper My group members for the group speech were Alex Potzner, Caitlyn Haller, and Shelby Welsh. I really had a great group experience, and I think my other group members would agree. When we first got together, it was pretty easy to narrow down our topic choices. We ended up not getting our first choice, but we did get the our second choice of the NAACP. We were very excited to start working on the speech, and we all decided to meet on a Wednesday. At our meeting, everyone…

I was definitely not the best partner to work with this week as I was on vacation until Saturday morning and had little time on my computer. However, Yoselin was super understanding and we used text messaging to have the most efficient conversations about our project. As for group work, I am usually against the idea because I tend to be an introvert who wants to have all the control of what is being submitted. It is sometimes difficult for members of a group to have equal responsibilities.…

members. This is the ideal of an egoless team structure. In the case of Dogs Group, although the structure was egoless, certain members of the team could not agree on what roles the members should have and this led to conflicts between those members who followed the egoless team structure (exhibit designers and educators) and those that wanted to follow more traditionalist mode of team structures…
