Reflection Paper: Virtual Group Work and Decision Making

Throughout the virtual group work I feel like we as a group did very well because we each got our work done. I feel like since there were three section of requirement to figure out. We each just did one part of the assignment and later we combined our work together. Having a virtual partner is kind of difficult to get things started at first because we only contact each other by email. As we all know getting respond back via email often takes a very long time. However our virtual partner emailed us two times. Somehow I have missed his first email and then noticed it went into my spam folder. Even though I missed his first email, I got back to

Another thing I like about it was that there were another classmate who are also in my group. I liked that because if I would have two virtual groupmates it’s going to be very difficult to start on anything. Since if both the group members are virtual you would have to wait for both of them to respond. Unlike having someone in class who are in your group, they could start and help each other first to start on the project while waiting for the other person to …show more content…
Therefore we could have visual contract with one another instead of just using email. I think doing the group would when we could see each other will help improve the teamwork and effort we put in more. I believe so because with the thought of we see each other and knowing who the other people are one doesn’t want to do a bad grade on their own work and drag the others down. Especially if the other groupmates know who you are, how you look, and your name. Video call would also increase the work speed and take less time to finish the final touch. As we learn in our lessons that if we felt like being watch our productively will highly increase due to feeling the consent pressure that someone is watching

What is your team’s approach to completing the project? This project is difficult for anyone to complete in an online class setting such as this. However, this is not because of any task that is assigned for this project, but because this assignment forces us to learn to effectively communicate with each other to complete a common goal. First, what worked well was how our group integrated our individual skills together to complete the project. When we introduced ourselves and what our concentrations were, it was easy to determine what roles and responsibilities we would take on. We worked individually on our tasks before meeting together and integrating everything into the final product. The problems that arose primarily concerned communication and scheduling group meetings.…

I had never received education in the united states so it was kind scaring for me to attend the on line class with Collaborative Learning Community (CLC) Group Project. I was worried about I may not attend the group well and involve others into trouble. I am surprised that I did good in the group. It is a good experience to work with others who have different culture and I did learn something new from the CLC group project. The problem was we had schedule and it was hard to contact people right away and everyone had their own opinions and points so communication was a very important element to deal with the project.…

The case studies “The Battle Over Working as a Virtual Group” and “How Do You Manage Conflicting Needs and Goals?” are great examples of what truly happens in small groups everywhere. While “The Battle Over Working as a Virtual Group” (VG Case for short) displays what can potentially happen when forming a group that only communicates via the Internet and other means besides face-to-face interaction, it compares in many ways with “How Do You Manage Conflicting Needs and Goals?” (N&G Case for short); but also contains many differences as well. Looking at the VG Case, we see a group who was assigned an oral report about the Civil War and it was decided to make the group a virtual group in order to not find it necessary to meet face-to-face.…

It was nice to be able to work together. There was one thing that I didn't like though. Since there were four of us thinking out loud at the same time it took more time than it usually would if I were working by myself. I didn't mind that it took more time, it was just that our schedule’s did not match very much so it was difficult to find a set time to work on it at after school. If we had spent a little more time thinking about when we would…

In Howard Rheingold’s 1993 journal, A slice of life in my virtual community, he writes about the varying degrees of communities and whether or not a virtual community is in fact a real one, “When a group of people remain in communication with one another for extended periods of time, the question of whether it is a community arises. Virtual communities might be real communities, they might be pseudo- communities, or they might be something entirely new in the realm of social contracts,” (178). With the age of the internet, the idea of a virtual community was born through online platforms, but the Internet was not always what it is today so virtually communities were somewhat unknown. Rheingold describes the idea of the third place, the place…

What ties a group closer together than those out in the middle of a lake, river, or ocean? Those who have experienced boating know this close bond that is formed. It is a relationship of having just each other among a vast amount of water. shared between those on the boat and other boaters. I have been taking this class for nearly three months. During three months, I learned a lot about small group communication, especially the group climate and interaction are going well in our group. Our group works well on building and keeping positive attitude to our assignments and supportive climate. Each group member devotes to create an atmosphere that our group is the best group. For instance, our group member Erik and Jo always said some words of praise and encouragement, such as “we are really a good group”.…

In fact, my group members were very helpful and whenever one of us had trouble with something we would all participate in solving her problem or giving her helpful tips to solve it. By helping, supporting and motivating each other it made the project easier to solve and it helped us in achieving our work in the most effective time and ways. Here are some points I loved about the experience, firstly being a part of a group helped in developing my skills and we were able to achieve more work than in working individually. Secondly, we had more time to manage and plan. Thirdly I developed more communicating skills and team commitment and also I had more exchange of information between myself and our group members.…
